Madden 2006 is released
I only got to play around with the game a little bit last night. This new passing mode is going to take some getting used to. I can handle the cone of vision thing but what I am having problems with is trying to do precision passing by guiding the ball to a certain spot. It is almost like you need an extra couple of fingers.
The superstar mode is kind of neat but I am annoyed that the guy I made ended up as a 4th string running back. So when I go to the practices I don't even get to see my guy playing. Does this mean I screwed up and need to start this over? Also, what if I don't want to be a white guy? You can go through and choose your parents and their dna and such but you really can't do much more than that. You have to keep cycling through to get the position that you want to play and that could take a long time.
All in all though I had fun playing the first game.

I simulated an entire season and the Cardinals ended up 6-10. Bah!Bubba Grizz wrote:

For kicks, I simulated the first game of the season for the Packers @ Detroit. The Packers won something like 21-17. Ahman Green had a 78 yard receiving TD and a 64 yard rushing TD before the first quarter was over.
The complaints I've been hearing is that injuries are overdone. One guy complained that Culpepper, P.Manning, and Thomlinson were all out for the season before the first game of the regular season.
I was kind of disappointed with the simulated season results. ESPN2K5 seemed to end up with stats in the realm of possibility. Madden 06 had people like Jimmy Smith (36 year old Jax receiver) leading the league in receptions and yardage.
I really hope EA is spending 99% of their effort on Xbox 360 Madden 06 as the graphics on this one seemed choppy/jerky and the announcers voices weren't smooth transitioning between canned lines and inserting names of players/teams like in ESPN2K5.
ESPN2K5 had the visually better looking products and it's a shame this monopoly is going to let EA produce mediocre games without being pushed by another company.

They bought off the competition by getting an exclusive NFL liscence. Do you really think if they had made a better game than ESPN's that they would have blown the money on that? Fuck EA sports. NFL2k5 was the most fun I had playing a console FB game in years and instead of getting off of their asses and making a competitive game this year, they bought a monopoly and sat on their lazy asses, if not made the game worse. Ten minutes of this games demo in the store told me it was a piece of shit. No fucking way will I buy this thing even used.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

I was pretty freaking ticked as well about knocking NFL2K out of the picture. I'm passing on this game. Maybe I'll come back if the next-gen is something special but I think monopolizing the sport pretty much sucks. I think the Blitz series is going in the outlandish direction since the NFL doesn't have a say on what they can't do any longer.

the deal was being talked about prior to NFL 2K5..and it was the NFL who went to EA Sports, not the other way around. NFL was looking for someone to sell the rights to in order to produce exclusive football games.Jice Virago wrote:They bought off the competition by getting an exclusive NFL liscence. Midway is making a football game this year tho, it will be called The League.

I have given up on that Superstar bullshit. No matter what you do you can't get more than 70% on the IQ test and you always end up around 4th string on the team. When you go to your first preseason game you would expect be seeing your player in the second half but nope you don't. You can't even control the roster. This portion of the game deals strictly with the events that have nothing to do with playing football. This is boring. I am most unhappy with that.

Bubba I agree with the IQ test, it's a bitch. Just messing around and making a few different Superstars I made a SS and was drafted in the 2nd round by the Vikings. I"m second string to Chauvous (sp?) so I decided to keep that one and play it out.
I"m hoping for an injury to the starter. Then i'm gonna pull a TO and complain about the coaches and see what happens.

Bubba I haven't messed with it a lot, but I think you can affect your spot in the roster. When you are at your apartment go to "my web" then to favorites or something like that. It will show the depth chart, you can then move your character around in that depth chart. When you practice the character shows up in that position.

I usually get NCAA to hold me over until the new Madden comes out, but I have been too busy this year to think about it. I haven't even seen any demo's of NCAA 06 yet.
With Superstar mode you can import your college Legend player from NCAA, as I understand it when you import a character it will increase your chances of going in the higher draft rounds (1-2), instead of round 3 or 4 like you will typically find when you just create a Superstar in Madden.

Ok, I gave it a go last night and made my guy the second string running back. I didn't want to go first string cause it just didn't feel right. But after playing for a bit I realized that I would have more fun just making a guy in Franchise mode and playing him instead and screw all that other crap. It's all about the football anyhow isn't it.
Any simulated season that ends up giving the Cardinals a 6-10 record is NOT accurate! I TiVO'd the Cardinal/Cowboy game over the weekend and watched it the other night. The Cardinals look solid on both sides of the ball...especially their defense which held Dallas to zero points in almost a full half while starters were on the field.
Larry Fizgerald looked great...there's some focus on Anquan Boldin but Fitz is the main man with Boldin a strong 2nd. Kurt Warner did nothing but impress while he was out there. 14-19-151 with a TD. Our rookie CB Antrel Rolle looks like a monster. Dallas went at him three plays in a row...on two he cam up and stopped the short pass using a WWF move to slam the receiver's head into the ground and on the third, a long bomb to the endzone, Rolle was there to knock the ball away.
I'm liking what I see!

Yes but how did JJ Arington do? Was he a starter?Winnow wrote:Any simulated season that ends up giving the Cardinals a 6-10 record is NOT accurate! The Truck stick is ok....but I could live without it. Playmaker was a much better feature.
One of my biggest issues is on punt return...the blocking is horrible. To the point that 3 of my guys will just stand there as 2 of the opposition runs between them and gives me a nice clothesline just as I catch the punt.

you can control the roster (at least in ps2)
Press start
Go to coaching options
Go to substitutions
you can add or remove your guy for whatever plays / setups you want him to be in.
My QB starts every game now
