Nice. I'll grab it tonight and install it on one of my HDs. From what I read elsewhere, some of the multimedia stuff isn't in beta 1 though.

Aparently there's gonna be some changes in the UI between beta1 and beta 2. Some of the multimedia stuff is missing too.

Apparently their goal was to get this to work with as many machines as possible. A big chunk of this download is apparently drivers.

I just want it for IE7 and tabbed browsing! I guess a beta of IE7 should be available to everyone shortly (within days).

Now you non Copernic believers will probably have a built in Copernic type search feature in Windows Vista.

Lock up Minesweeper, Solitaire, and Spider Solitaire from the kid!

Those games, unlike freecell and hearts, are dangerous.

Running Vista now.. Actually posting from it atm. Runs well.

Wasn't able to get my onboard nforce3 nic running with the XP drivers however the d-link NIC I had in my wife's computer works like a charm =)

Obviously this early in the game drivers will be virtually unavailable other than the 1.4 GB that microsoft has packaged with the OS.

The install sequence is about the most boring of any Windows iteration thus far. It's litterally chose where windows goes, plug in the key and watch it go.
Took about 30-40 minutes overall.

Played WoW with it and it works beautifully.

I'll post more as I experience it.

I like it so far.

Installation isn't for the impatient. It took about an hour and you don't have to do anything besides pick which hard drive you want to install it on. I chose my goof off 250gb and let the installation do its thing.

A few things. It appeared to hang (installation bar stops moving) about half way though the first install window but started up again after 5-10 minutes. It reboots itself a few times through the process. The most testing time was waiting about 15 minutes while the screen was completely blank...no message or anything besides the previous 5-10 minutes of a message saying "completing installation, don't turn off your computer during this process". The crunching of my HD kept my faith while I stared at the blank screen and after the 15 or so minutes, it rebooted and I was good to go with a dual boot setup.

For some reason, the DVD I burned of Vista wasn't recognized when I put it into the DVD player but I was able to mount it with Alcohol and install with no issues...although after Vista is done with initial installation, it asks you if you want to install the supplemental drivers which of course you do because they contain your video drivers. Well you can't access the virtual drive anymore but I put the burned DVD back into the drive and it recognized it and installed the driver pack.

The new Aero Theme/Look is outstanding. No need for new themes for awhile IMO.

Yay Tabbed Browsing! IE7 is pretty sleek.

Off to play with this for awhile.

OK that was fun. I'm done until Beta 2 the beginning of next year.

IE7 b1 is available now for Windows XP if you have a genuine copy of XP. It's on the Newsgroups and Pirate Bay. Pirate Bay has instructions on how to install it on a pirate copy of XP if you need/want to.

Btw, be wary of doing updates if you have an 'evaluation' version of XP. Microsoft has just implemeted their WGA program. And to get updates (other than security) you'll need to install it:

Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
443 KB , less than 1 minute
The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool enables you to verify that your copy of Microsoft Windows is genuine. The tool validates your Windows installation by checking Windows Product Identification and Product Activation status. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend installing IE7 if you have a non valid version of XP. All you do is change the prod key temporarily, install IE7 and then change it back, but I wouldn't suggest doing that for a beta version of Internet Explorer.

For anything other than security updates, it's usually better to go to the individual websites of the peripheral you're updating anyway.
