That article contains some truths, some half truths, and some fabrications. Interesting fluff piece for Mr. CTO.

The one thing you can always tell within a few sentences is if the person writing the article has ever played an mmorpg, this guy obviously hasn't.
Those are the articles I like to read most are the ones wrote by people who have really played the game, articles like this one make people who play online games sound like science experiments to me.

There are rows of flat monitors and lists of EverQuest world names projected on the wall: Morell Thule, Veeshan, The Nameless.
The writer didn't get the memo about name changes.

As for whether or not that person actually plays EQ. Yeah, it's fairly obvious they don't. However the focus of the article is the backend, not the actual game iteself. I think it did a decent job although I would have found in more interesting if it was written from the perspective of someone that plays EQ and aimed at readers who also play (or have played) EQ. It wasn't really as in-depth as I was looking for.

It's an electrical engineering publication.

The subject matter is all the technical side, and the audience is engineers.

We have that issue :p

I still have EQ on my HD. I loaded that patcher and watched all the new files download. That was my entertainment for the day!

It's not that exciting to see. Well, I guess it could be if you aren't used to datacenters but it's just a normal setup with rows of racks filled with servers.
