Willie Wonka

Post by nobody »

i thought it was pretty good. i loved the oompa loompas and i thought the squirrels were better than the geese of the original. Johnny Depp was great as Willie Wonka but i didn't like the character flaws they gave him. WW in the origional was eccentric but otherwise normal. this WW is just wierd with some issues i could have done without. overall i'd give it an 8.025 out of 10.

I'm tired of reading about the supposed Michael Jackson connection with Depp's portrayal of Wonka. I don't see it. He doesn't look like Jackson, he doesn't sound like Jackson, and he's not NEARLY as looney as Jackson. Ignorant fucks are just seeing pale skin and children and saying 'OMGZ ITS TEH JACKSON' because we've been inundated with news about him for months.

As far as Depp's portrayal of Wonka, I think it's bizarre, unsettling and eccentric... exactly what it should be.

That's fine and dandy except for the fact it's titled Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and not Willy Wonka!

Really enjoyed this movie. Burton did great, Depp was great, the kids were very good and another similiar but good soundtrack from Elfman.

I also saw Wedding Crashers. People were in tears during that movie. Also a great one. Finally a good weekend at the movies.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

I loved the movie - Burton did very well.

[hide]I also enjoyed all the background they did on Wonka - from his fascination with candy to his torn childhood[/hide]

One thing that bothered me though had nothing to do with the movie - but the people sitting near me:

<rant>
I wanted to punch everyone around me for being so idiotic, dumb, annoying, and whiney.

I had the most retarded 15 year old girl sitting next to me throughout the film. Before we arrived I saw her walking away from the theater with two friends. She was one of those people who you see and you KNOW that you absoulutely don't want to talk to/be near - I could hear her normal voice from 50 feet away at a busy intersection. When I saw her I thought to myself "I feel sorry for whoever had to sit next to her."

So I sit down with a family member in an already crowded theater and two 17 or 18 year old guys sit next to us. That's fine - from my experience this crowd is okay in small numbers. The entire row is full now so they look around and find three seats open in the row behind them. They get up and take them - fine - no big deal.

Two girls get up from two rows in front of us and sit down - low and behold - it's that girl with a friend. I start punching myself in the gut mentally.

Commercials & Previews begin. A Fanta commercial pretending to sell a CD with the Fanta girl's music comes on. The annoying girl next to me starts singing all their songs as loud as possible. "WANTA FANTA DON'T YOU WANTA, WANTA FANTA!"

Finally we get through previews, and the girl talks to her friend throughout the entire movie. Opening her cell phone and glancing at the 0 calls she's received every 10 minutes. She dances during all the oompa loompa scenes and kicks me every time. "OOPS!"

Not to mention the other friend they left (one row in front of us) kept turning around and asking them stupid questions. At least two of the three hadn't seen the original movie, because when
[Show]
Wonka gives Charlie the factory <-- Unless you were beat as a child, you should die if you didn't know this
they gave out the biggest GASP!'s I'd ever heard.

I'm not even going to go into the comments the five year old behind us made .. while he said the stupidest stuff - he was just a kid. I considered yelling at the parent though so he would shut up.

Well that was totally uncaleld for Searyx!

I was simply trying to point out that if you start a thread about a movie at least get the damn title correct. It's not that difficult.

Rellix, I feel your pain on that situation. I am sick and tired of that kind of shit happeneing at the movies. You absolutely cannot go see a movie before the 930 show on a weekday, or at all on the weekend if you want to have a fighting chance of avoiding that shit- which is pathetic.

Generally if kids are acting like that, I will warn them myself one time, and if it continues I will quietly leave the theatre, go to the manager, and explain to him/her that if they do not remove these kids from the movie I want my ticket refunded and I will never return to the theatre again. This has worked for me every time, and most times the whole crowd cheers as they pull the little brats out of the theatre.

Kids manners nowadays are going totally to shit, and why is this? you might ask. Its because parents do not beat their children anymore because its "wrong". Well ok, but when your child is acting like this in a theatre, I think it should be perfectly legal for the people they are ruining the movie for - to beat them senseless.

Maybe I am gettign old but when I go to a movie and spend $8, I want to watch the fucking movie. If someone is talking then I shush them politely first. If they continue to make noise then I will say in a moderately loud voice for them to take their conversation outside. If they still don't shut up then I go talk to the manager and get a free ticket to a future showing.

95% of people will shut up at the first warning and most of the rest will shut up at the second showing. Just remember that when you tell someone to be quiet that you are not embarrasing yourself, you are embarassing them and most of the audience will be quite pleased with you.

I find that lack of attention and parenting, rather than discipline, is the problem with kids these days. too few bother with really instilling morals and values into their children and instead, just resort to beating them when they screw up out of rage. beating your children clearly doesnt guarantee a future without misconduct, it guarantees that your children fear screwing up and letting you find out...which of course indirectly creates an irresponsible child. the child doesnt want to take responsibility for screwing up and the parent certainly doesnt want to take responsibility either. so who's fault is it? coming up, I rarely heard a kid say "I wish I hadnt done that because it was wrong" but rather "man, am I really gonna get it when my father comes home."

this is also why I cringe everytime I hear the term(s) "parental control". the media serves as another excuse for parents to fall back on when their children screw up. censorship shouldnt serve as a replacement for real parenting. if youre worried about your children seeing violence and mimicing it on the playground the next day, chances are you havent really taught them about why kicking another kid's ass on the playground is wrong...unless of course the other kid had it coming

and I havent seen the movie yet, but Im really hoping to get around to it when I get home. I love burton's work. :D
