Priest websites

Post by Psyloche »

Just wondering if anyone had some decent ones instead of me looking at the various google'd ones that could end up being similar to reading a Rune of War strat webpage. Or any discussion about how to spec a priest and the advantages/disadvantages of shadow vs holy. I'm looking at from a PvP perspective as I'm playing on Firetree. I've read arguments on both sides and don't really know which to go with. So far it looks mostly like Shadow til 60 and if I decide to raid its holy.

If you are on a PvP server, I would imagine that you will want to stay Shadow the length of your career. Unless you like being fodder for the masses instead of near the top of the food chain. There certainly are benefits by going holy for healing reasons. But, you can still heal as a shadow priest, just not as well. Any raid with half a brain is going to have a mini heal rotation set up on the MT anyway to reduce healer aggro. As far as where to put your talents, there is a link to a talent point generator on this page somewhere..check it out.

The best way to learn about your class from scratch is to read the class forums on wow.com. Websites often have old, opinionated, or outdated information. Forums ALWAYS have opinionated information, sure, but its always up to date and you can see opinions from EVERYONE.

My opinion:

Soloing, shadow is the way to go. Leveling up, you want to be shadow specced for easy leveling. Once 60.. for being on a PvP server, shadow spec is nice.. but mostly for 1v1's. Yes you can heal decent enough as shadow specced. I followed that path for a long time too. But if you travel in groups PvPing, which is mostly what I do playing on a pvp server (5 man pvp squads or BG's) you will really increase your groups and your own survivability by speccing disc/holy. And if you plan on raiding it's really the way to go. I'm currently 28 disc 23 holy.

I really really really miss being shadow specced though. The DPS was nuts, and having silence/mindflay was awesome. I have seen a group of 4 shadow priests and a warlock running around just absolutely desimating every alliance in their path. You can stay shadow at 60 if you really want to. But if your main pvping comes with a balanced group and you healing them. I really would suggest going disc/holy.

Digi pretty much covered it all. Shadow is the way to go for leveling, then at 60 you need to decide what you want to focus on and spec accordingly. I play on a PVE server (Blackhand) and am in a raiding guild, so I'm 26 disc/25 holy. But while I was leveling, I used shadow once I got over the delusion of needing disc/holy for exp instances.

I think there is a thread somewhere on here discussing priest talents, so you might want to look for that one.

Anyways, continue on..

I don't find trading Silence, Vamp. Embrace, Mind Flay, and Imp. Scream for slightly less change of being interrupted casting flash heal to be much of a value.

Unless you consistently face COMPLETE RETARDS, you will be the #1 target in every encounter, and there isn't a whole lot your crew can do to save your ass if a rogue/hunter gets a bead on ya.

Having lived through a large amount of assualts on myself by rogues etc. I beg to differ. Yeah I die if I get focus fired by 5+ people all at once, almost anyone would (if they aren't getting healed by me). But I'm amazed how many times I escape death with just one or two people on me. Shield + a crit flash heal can put me from 1/4 life to nearly full life.

Hell I'm living a lot more in AV where I'm one of the only Priests on the field actually healing horde, thus having alliance try to take me out a lot. I'll follow my tank around keeping him alive while he downs peeps. If someone switches to me.. shield + renew and run away. Stop for a flash heal if I need to. That being said, I do do a pretty good job of keeping myself in a good position of not being attacked a lot.

I'm not trying to convince ya holy/disc is better for pvp all the time. Shadow really is an awesome tree. I loved it and miss it. For 1v1 against any class it kicks ass. But I have to disagree about always being toast when getting jumped by a couple enemies. I most definitely have noticed a difference in my ability to survive attacks by high DPS melee and mages with the extra healing/focus. And keeping a warrior alive while 10+ peeps are throwing everything they got at him in AV is an awesome thing to see too!

You don't need to be healing spec to do that, as the instants are much more key for PvP, especially given how mobile most battles are

BTW, holy or shadow, DO NOT NEGLECT DISCO. Improved bubble and the reduced mana instants are fucking key for everything.

It's fucking hilarious too!
-What race should I…
Undead.
Dwarf.
Period.

-But I picked…
No. You were wrong. I wish this weren’t the case, but it is. There are not tradeoffs. You unknowingly picked the wrong race. This means racial trait questions, race questions, anything with the words “night elf”, should not be posted. Don’t ask me, ask the assweasels that coded racial traits/spells. If you feel the need to justify your poor choice, please do so here and get it allllll out, so the no more posts ever have to be mislead by your choices.
