radeon 9800 pro 256mb

Hey guys... i won a 9800 pro 256mb card at a CS tourny and when i try to play any game whatsoever, random pixels are missing from everywhere, it looks like theres digi-ants eating my desktop or something. I have tried several different drivers and none have worked. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? any help on this would be greatly appreciated, sadly i cant just go get a new one or get a refund cause no receipt =(

Random pixels showing up happens when cards overheat or sometimes when they're overclocked too high. Was it a new card untampered with when you got it?

Try reseating the card in the agp slot. Is the extra power hooked up to it?

Might want to try installing the latest ati approved driver.

I had something similar with my 256 mb GeF 5700LE. After I oc'd it pretty aggressively, textures would be missing and random dots would be missing in any application that used Dx9 (games). Resetting the card to default speed and installing the latest driver from nVidia fixed my problems.

This may be a hardware issue, where you either have faulty RAM or a faulty gpu. If you try the things above and determine it's truly a hardware problem, and it's an ati branded card, you might try contacting them directly and see about a replacement.

ive tried it in two systems, so its probably not a hardware problem. Yeah ive got the power thing in there, its a fucking bitch to take out. Im pretty sure everything was default when i got it, but if not, how can i reset them? This forum is the shit, i posted on like 4 random computer hardware help forums and no one responded, this got 2 in hours... thanks

Is it a Saphire brand card? If it is, goto the place where you won it, bitchslap the promoters with said card, and insult them for giving out such a shitty card.

Wal-Mart is your friend for exchanging all gifts without receipts. Just ask for a direct exchange and if they have one in stock, you are good to go.

Aside from that, make sure you have the latest Catalyst program installed.

Flash the bios to an older bios version, then reflash the most current one back. That'll reset any settings on it. Also, it's handy to have a PCI video card on hand when you do this, in case you run into any problems with the flashing and you can't get your computer to Post.

I don't think that's the problem though. Like someone else said, those symptoms occur when your card is overheated, or is overclocked too high. Also when you have faulty RAM or a faulty GPU. You said you tried it on two systems and had the same problem on both? Definitely faulty RAM or GPU, really. Only thing to do is return for exchange, if you can.
