LOL @ Stephen Harper

Post by miir »

Surprise!!
Stephen Harper wrote:When push comes to shove the Liberals will make any deal with anybody,And it doesn't matter whether it's with the socialists or with the separatists or any bunch of crooks they can find.
Yea right, the same 'separatists' he made a deal with in his pitiful attempt at a non confidence vote.

Regardless, for the first time in recent memory, Canadian politics has actually been pretty interesting and entertaining. A complete contrast of the political situation south of the border.

If you love Jerry Springer, the Surreal Life or any other trash TV show, Canadian Parlament is for you. It fucking hilarious watching all the crackpots come out of the woodwork at once from all sides, and make complete idiots of themselves on CBC. The literally cut pro-wrestling promos on each other about everything from same sex marriage to the Atlantic accord.

It's a great time to be in canada. As long as you're not a citizen.

LOL. You havta love this current govt. They're managed to turn politics into quite the spectator sport.

Frankly, I think the Conservatives should dump Harper and put McKay up there. He seems to be a much more moderate and reasonable voice than Harper ever will be.

McKay is just as much of a nutbag.
He was comparing Martin to Hannibal Lechter.

Yeah but to anyone east of Manitoba, there'd still be that fear of the "sekrit agenda" so the Liberal crooks would still win based on Eastern Canadian spinelessnes.

I don't know about that. Newfoundland is pretty fucking sick of the liberals.

In order for the conservatives to get back in power, they need a respectable leader to spearhead them. Joe Clark is worth 10 each of every other politician on the planet combined. He screwed up the first time pretty badly but I always felt he deserved a second chance.

Nova Scotia's NDP and Conservative supporters are growing fast the last 10 years, and Newfoundland would vote Conservative if it would cockblock the currect government. Don't know about PEI or NB.

Incidently, living in Newfoundland, I've discovered that about every 6 weeks they announce that they officially have broken all ties with Canada, and are now their own soverign nation. But nobody ever notices. Kinda like trying to unsubscribe from AOL or Columbia House. They keep getting the bills in the mail. Whining Newfies. But I loves 'em =)

There's an amazing symetry between the current governments of Canada and the U.S. in that we both KNOW that our current administration is corrupt, stupid and worthless, but the opposition party is so comically retarded, and seemingly so desperate to alienate all but the most batshit loopy that they are simply unelectable.

For being corrupt, stupid and worthless they seem to be doing fairly well for a minority government. For that matter, what has the current administration done that could be considered corrupt, supid or worthless?

The budget, especially with the NDP additions was pretty good news.

The current provincial government in NB is Conservative(has been for tte last 6 or 7 years) although people are pretty pissed off at them becuase of their inaction on a few issues (mainly skyrocketing insurance costs).

On the federal level however, it's mostly liberal in NB (The riding I grew up in has been voting NDP for 3 terms now interestingly enough)

Lets see, hrmmm Oh Yeah wasn't Martin Finance Minister during a good chunk of the Cretien years, and wasn't all the corruption and mismanagement regarding finances?

Wake up man.

And the NDP Budget especially is not good news, coupled with all the additional promises that Martin seems to like making with my fucking tax dollars. Sorry, but this is hardly worthy of what so many praise as the Liberals astute financial acumen.

Those NDP changes would've probably never happened if the power-hungry conservatives had decided to back the original budget( That mostly everyone actually liked btw ).

Jack Layton took advantage of Harper's ambitions and Martin's desperation to gain a good chunk of change for causes that the NDP support.

On my part, I'm happy we're not going to the polls again after just 1 year since the last election.

I'm in Corner Brook for the summer, working with some old buddies in Theatre by the Bay. It's also where I went for my degree. I'm a Haligonian by birth.
