LCD monitor..

I'm looking to buy a LCD monitor to replace my old CRT. However I don't really know what companies are known for making good LCD's. I'm looking to get a 19 inch most likely that will have fast enough response time to play FPS's. Resolution wise I don't mind as long as it's 1024/768 or larger. If anyone has any experience with good companies let me know.

They still going for $1k or so I think. Been out awhile so maybe a little less.

24" 16:9 (?) lots of hookups...drool.

Seach online for Dell Coupons then wait a couple of weeks and they will put them onsale. When they do buy it and that price and use a coupon to get it even cheaper. My friend got the 20" version, normally like $800, for $435 about a month ago, I can't even get it that cheap through work and we spend a LOT will Dell each year.

Not sure I would recommend the 20" version. Since the 24" came out the 20" price has gotten pretty low so not sure it's normally $800 anymore. Looks like regular price is $750 but they are on sale now for $560. 24" is going for $959. Worth the price difference in my opinion!

The Dell 2405FPW really has no competition atm. You'll want to run in 1920X1200 or 1:1 pixel mapping for the best picture.

if you don't wanna spend 600 bucks or more on a monitor, tigerdirect has an acer 19" lcd w/16ms response time for like 229.00 right now. Don't know how long it will last but usually with TD they put out the "supr-sekrit" sale thing telling you they won't last long at that price then have them in every email flyer i get from then on.

Thanks for the reccomendations. I actually was looking to spend more like ~500 dollar's, but I'll definatly look into the 2405FPW. I may just wait a little longer and see if it drops in price more. I really have no idea what I would need a 24inch LCD for, but it does sound awesome!

If either the size or the price is a little too high, then you might want to consider the Dell 2005FPW, which is the smaller (20.1" wide aspect) monitor made by Dell.

They have a deal on Got Apex right now for the 20' non-widescreen for like $450... if you wait you might get the widescreen in a couple of weeks for the same price but either are going to be nice. The non actually looks a little bigger but the wide is great for movies and WoW since you can play in that format.

Future Proof yourself with 1920X1200. That will be the max res games will have for years to come.

The older Dell 20" models don't have Samsung panels and have some back lighting issues. Plus with the widescreen 20" you get some goofy max res between 1600X1200 and 1920X1200 so you can't play 1600X1200 games in 1:1 pixel format.

24" Dell is superior for many reasons, not just for its size. It's a better panel than anything else out there. Previous LCD's look like crap compared to it (ghosting, viewing angles, etc)

I'd probably wait and just buy a much cheaper CRT monitor if you can't spring for the 24" Dell yet. You'll get a much better picture.

I would go with a CRT, however with going to a new college I'm probably going to be wanting to move my computer setup somewhat frequently. And I don't enjoy lugging 60 pound monitor's around very much.

I think I may just wait awhile closer to when I will be leaving and see how much the 24inch drops in price and get one later on.

I didn't mean to be so critical. The 24" Dell is expensive for normal computer use, especially if you're going to be using it at college and have other expeses.

I would also suggest what Neost said and get a decent 19" LCD for cheap and not go in between with a 20". It's a sort of all or nothing thing atm. Skip the mid level stuff and go for the $200-250 models.

Here's a decent image that shows the differences in resolution size. The 24" Dell is a little bigger than the the largest scale shown on this chart. Add another 120 pixels to the bottom and you have the 24" Dell native resolution for comparison to some other standards.
