$166
WD 10,000 RPM 72GB SATA150 drive
It's nice. I've had the 36GB Raptor for what seems like a few years and it's very speedy when loading up your OS and apps.
I think the 72GB Raptors are quieter than the 36's which is my only complaint. If I was buying again with the new focus on a quiet PC, I'd probably buy the spinpoint. Will your PC be in a den or living room?

Winnow-
My PC will be in a home office, so it won't be audible when you aren't actively using the comp.
Trias - does your case have metal screws connecting the drives to the chassis? or do they sit on rubber grommets. i'm wondering if you get one of those quiet style cases with the grommets if you could reduce a bunch of the noise.

The Sonata has the grommets! (and it's still loud but not horrible) The reason I whine a bit is my PC is in the living room as part of my home theater so I need it quiet during movies.Voronwë wrote:Winnow-

Are you getting two HDs? 72gb aint going to cut it for storage. If you go for the loud Raptor then there's no reason to get the Spinpoint so you can get a cheap 250GB for bulk storage.

i'm using the metal screws actually...i have it in pretty secure so i don't think i'm getting vibration between the drive and the case...i'll have to try grommets
however i believe the drives will still be loud heh...it's not THAT loud...it's just the loudest i've ever owned...i wouldn't part with them for any other drive out there currently
i use a 250gig WD caviar edition HD in an external enclosure for storage currently; the kind that is intended for heavy use and backup useage; mostly used in security systems that are constantly doing back ups daily
i like it, it's quiet and is very fast...using a rosewill(i think that's the brand)enclosure and it seems alright minus the stupid bright blue LED it has
you should get the raptors if they fit your budget...you won't be disappointed
