Sony, Warner Bros. to collaborate on online games

Sony Corp. and Time Warner Inc. said Friday their computer game units will develop and enhance online games based on characters from DC Comics and "The Matrix Online."

Burbank-based Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will work with Sony Online Entertainment, based in San Diego, to create a console and enhance its Matrix Online game into a massively multiplayer online game.

The companies plan to do the same with a game based on the world of DC Comics characters, which include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Sandman.

Sony and Warner Bros. plan the games' release in the fourth quarter 2007. The terms of the long-term licensing agreement were not disclosed.

Massively multiplayer online games allow hundreds or thousands of players to simultaneously play a game through the Internet.

Sony Online is a unit of Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE). Interactive Entertainment Inc. is a unit of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX).

Hopefully the DC comics game will be at least as good as CoH, but with more depth.

Can't remember where but didn't someone post about Marvel being in the initial stages of creating a MMORPG of their comic universe?

I'd rather play in the Marvel world than DC's goofy universe but with MMORPG's it will all depend on how well they're designed.

The more options the better! With the available graphics power of Xbox 360, PS3 and PCs, there should be some amazing stuff in 2007.
