First look at GTA:SA for Xbox and PC

Post by Drolgin Steingrinder »

IGN wrote:Due to release on Xbox Tuesday, June 7, 2005 in North America, and Friday, June 10, in Europe, the Xbox version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, like the updated Double Pack of Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, features upgraded graphics, with 480p and 16:9 Progressive Scan support, higher resolution textures, new lighting and shading models, and increased draw distance.

This means the vast roster of characters, vehicles, and backgrounds will appear sharper and clearer in all parts of the enormous three-city landscape, and the draw-distance will increase, thus affording players a better, more realistic state of disbelief.

Sound wise, Xbox owners will receive the generous ability to customize their own soundtracks. Not that they would necessarily want to, given the incredible eight-disc set of songs available in this action-adventure romp. But on Xbox, you will have the choice.

Finally, GTA fans also will be able to utilize a new 30-second instant replay feature specifically incorporated into the Xbox version. Thus, self-indulgent gamers (isn't that everybody?) can re-play radical stunt jumps, near-miss crashes, and particularly cool gunfights and bloody rampages to show off to their friends --and they'll have proof to show them!

Don't post this! We have some PS2 owners that are convinced that the GTA series looks the same on XBox with the same features as on the PS2. They might go into denial mode again. It's not healthy for them.

I tried playing it on the PS2, I really did, but the grubby graphics made me get a headache after 20 minutes each time - and GTASA isn't really a game that you can play in 20 minute portions. Hell, even the early missions take that long.

I'll be getting it - buying it - for the PC when it releases.

I wouldnt mind playing it on PC but I don't think I have anywhere near the patience to do all the tedious bullshit in that game. doing flight school and driving school and goign to the gym and dating 6 different girlfriends 20x each kind of makes me want to pull my hair out. Someone needs to tell Rockstar to keep it simple.

Its ok when the tedious stuff isnt required to progress, but half of it was fucking required. However it was still a great game. Im not sure if im going to get it on xbox though since I already have it on ps2.

I just want to see what rockstar will do to top SA. We all know its going to be on a next-gen console, lets just hope they stop this exclusive stuff.

San Adreas is out for the XBox and PC:
In regards to the gameplay, I'd have to give the overall advantage to the Xbox version, again, mostly due to the better framerate. Being able to smoothly spin around the camera, in the vehicles and on foot, makes a big difference in how the game plays.
Yes, it's essentially the same as the PS2, but the x has a huge advatage -- that's the analog triggers. It's not a button for the gas, it's a trigger that much closer allows you a "gas pedal". This along with the better graphics are a big plus. Graphics off in the distance are drawn a lot sooner, a lot farther away. It lets you drive better than the PS2.
People can finally play this game properly!

...can't wait for that high tech Nintendo Revolution to take a backwards step in framerate and rendering...but you can play ancient games on it for free!

I hope X-Box gets Bubble-Bobble soon too, seeing as they've become fucking archeologist about these ancient games

You know there are INNOVATIVE ways to get those ancient games into present games. Isn't it GTA or maybe the Vampire Masquerade that has arcade games you can walk up to while in the game and play old style games? I can't remember which game it was but that is a cool way to get them into the otherwise high polygon games.

Pie Fight is where it's at for old timer games!

GTASA has a few. I don't think either of the (PC) VTM games did.

mouse+keyboard puts this game at over the top awesome.

i tried with the gamepad when i first installed it.. but holy fuck does aiming and control in general suck balls compared to keyboard+mouse.

cheat codes:

lxgiwyl - weapon set 1
uzumymw - weapon set 2
hesoyam - health, armor, $250k
aezakmi - never wanted (Awesome)
wanrltw - infinite ammo no reload

Hehe, it better be good, i just bought it for my PC. Never played Vice City, only played the first 2 for a while till they got boring, so really looking forward to this one.

Gonna try it tomorrow i think, playing with my new IPod Mini tonight.

For anyone playing this on the PC who's gotten to the driving school in San Fiero...

The very first driving test drops you into a rear wheel drive car, and requires you to press W and S simultaneously so you can do a 360 burnout. In order to perform this move, you also need to turn to the left or the right. Unfortunately, in order to do this, you need to press 3 keys on the keyboard simultaneously, which you cannot do. My current plan is to remap the brake key to the right mouse button and do the challenge, but I'm curious what other people have done to make this work. Apparently this is the only challenge that requires this type of move.

100% complete, without cheating.

80 hours played (like since the game came out... I've just been picking away at it), and it was a good time.

I think its unfair that it remembers that you cheated once.
I got stuck on a building somehow, could not move, shoot or anything else. But had gotten 18 tags sprayed since last save, so didnt want to reload, so used a cheat to kill myself, and now every time i safe the game "reminds" me that a cheat have been activated.
