PSP owners!

Post by Nilaman »

PSP has been out for a bit now, how do those of you who bought it like it? When buying my nephew a new handheld system I bought myself a PSP. I am really impressed with it, I see a lot of potential in it. My only complaint is that I only bought one game, Spiderman 2, and I wish I had bought metal gear or something.

Do yall have some favorite games for it?

i'm turbo loving my psp

the games i have so far are:

Dark Stalkers: this is a remix of dark stalkers 1-3 with a lot of extras...if you like oldschool capcom fighters then you'll love this game

Wipeout Pure: this is the best as it gets graphically on psp so far...fast quirky futuristic racing...takes a LOT of time to master

Ridge Racer: awesome game, it way kicks the ass out of the ridge racer game that was on ps2...if you like racing this is one to get...it support up to 16 player multiplayer too...i've raced with 6 other people and it was a blast

Lumines: this is pure crack for puzzle game lovers and anyone that would like to try out a puzzle game...think tetris with music that changes to your actions...i think i've logged at least 12 hours on this game so far

Couldn't imagine portable gaming without my PSP.

Totally agree with Wipeout Pure, the graphics are insane, I'm totally lost in the gameplay and zone everything around me out. Definately takes some time to master.

I have Gretzky NHL, which is a decent hockey game. Found myself wanting the announcer to announce player goals, but stops short on "St. Louis GOAL!" It's ok

Need for Speed Underground Rivals is a cool racing game, where you can modify just about anything on your car and race different courses and different goals. This is my first NFS game so I'm relatively new at the series. I love my modified Neon LOL!

Untold Legends is much like the Champions of Norrath series, RPG hack and slash at its finest. There are some hitches when the inventory panel loads up, but cool storyline and missions you are given.

Also have Kill Bill Vol 1 on UDP and saw it for the first time (Don't laugh) which was pretty nice. Going to be sweet on a trip to pop out my PSP and watch movies instead of hauling the laptop around to watch.

Anyone else using the tunneling software for multiple platforms to play some multiplayer?

I came soooo close to buying the PSP today. I need to compare prices though. I was at Target and they had the "bundle" for $249...which only comes with demo games and Spiderman 2 movie. Sounds pretty pricey at the moment...so I will hit the web and see where the best deal is. I am assuming that $249 is the standard price and since it is so new I will not find a deal just yet...

I paid 250 just for the PSP. I paid another 50ish for Spiderman 2.

Going to go back and get that package deal for like 30 bucks you get a car charger, case, and shit. Then maybe grab another game or two. Spiderman was way short.

Here are the games I have so far in order of how I like them. (I didn't pay for most of these so :P )

Lumines (amazing puzzle game, if you only get one game, get this)

NBA Street Showdown (I love this game, it got middling reviews but I really can't put this one down)

MLB (I was shocked at how good this Baseball game is especially from SCEA...very well done.)

Tiger Woods Golf (Love this game, though if you prefer cutesy you might want to go for Hot Shots Golf)

Wipeout Pure (Fast sweet sexy looking racing at its best)

Twisted Metal (Good throwback Twisted Metal fun, really feels like Twisted Metal 2 if you like the franchise.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would say right about here is the mendoza line for games that you NEED and games that are still good and worthy of having.
_____________________________________________________

Need for Speed Rivals (Enjoyable racer with customizeable cars and is semi-easy to drive)

Untold Legends (Hack n' Slash fantasy combat, fun stuff especially if you know someone else with a psp who can get the game)

Ridge Racer (Fun Drifty Racing, but I dont like it as much as NFSR or Wiepout personally)

ATV Offroad Fury (Fun non-car racing, jumping ATV's off burms and going off "sweet jumps")

Tony Hawk Underground 2 (Great game...I haven't been playing it though, I'm really burnt out on the Tony Hawk Formula.)

_________________________________________________
I would say that this is the line for games that probably aren't worthy of having, unless you're specifically into the particular genre.
_________________________________________________

Gretzky NHL (Decent hockey, load times from hell.)

Mercury (I had great expectations for this one, and I just don't enjoy it.)

NBA (I have yet to even put this one in my psp - i got it free from a SCEA buddy...I hear its really bad though.)

Hmmm, you can't copy PSP games yet right? You must have connections at Sony still or are smuggling them out of Walmart!

Not a thief. I have some sony/ea/bioware hookups still. I took care of my peoples when I had the powa. :D

The ones I didn't get kicked down for I just traded in a bunch of old PS2 stuff *(Most of which I got on the hookup) that I never play anymore towards my PSP/and games.

I've been thinking of picking one up also but I've been curious about something first.

Before I think about shilling out the 300+ on it and all the accessories. Has anyone had any problems with their PSPs as far as having to bring them back due to the "Dead pixel" problems or other such issues?

Not a single problem. Actually about 10 minutes ago I accidentally dropped it while leaving the men's room and tried to catch it with my foot and wound up kicking it across the room against the wall. ><

I picked it up, flipped it on, no problems. :D Not even a dead pixel. Bwahhaa.

Well, I just came home with my new PSP. BestBuy and EBGames were both sold out. I was hoping to get one there for peace of mind that having an extended/no hassle warranty would give me.

That being said...I went to Target to buy mine since they had the bundle that includes the full version of Spiderman 2. I also picked up one game...Untold Legends. I haven't even taken the damn thing out of the box yet...spending time with the little one before I settle down for the night. But I am excited about it.

Oh yeah..I sold my Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP in Cobalt...with a case...6 games...one of those crappy screen magnifiers...all with less than 2 hours playtime..in pristine condition....for $127 bucks on eBay. Way more than I expected to get...just an FYI...Game Boy SP sucks...screen resolution/size was too small/crappy for my eyes.

I love mine. I've had it for several weeks now. I got Untold Legends, Wipeout Pure and Lumines with it. Lumines is my favorite so far, but all three are pretty good. Wipeout is to the point where I just get frustrated with it, it's to hard and I just don't have the patience to master it.

What scores are you guys getting on Lumines? I get to about 80k and lose it, but I've seen a few screen shots of people with like 300k plus so I don't think I'm doing so well. Those levels with the little round blocks instead of the square ones mess me up! I need more single color/single column/cleared screen bonuses I think. Puzzle mode is pretty fun until they just start repeating and making you do everything x2.

Midnight Club 3 will probably be my next game purchase, whenever they release it.

Two thumbs up for the system, no problems or dead pixels so far!

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is the best looking golf game I've ever seen. The courses are beyond spectacular. The gameplay is pretty fun, if you're into chibi collecting games.

I just wish that they would make the swing control use the analog stick instead of that goddamn power/control slider they've used for thousands of years. PAY EA THE FUCKING ROYALTIES IF YOU HAVE TO, BUT THAT FUCKING SLIDER MUST GO THE WAY OF THE DINOSAUR!!!

As good as their putting interface is, the swing interface is the opposite. Trying to put a usable slice/hook on a ball is harder in this game than fucking IRL.

Bump!

I went to the store to get my nephew the NES games Zelda and Link for his GBA. I ended up talking myself into buying "one more game for a long time" and so now I have Untold Legends. I was a little apprehensive about it before purchase, but I talked to someone in WoW about it and they assured me it was a fun game. Sometimes I really dig the hack and slash type games.

I really like how I can enchant my weapons and stuff. That rules. I enjoy the game a great deal, although the exp loss for dying is kinda lame.

My friends were raving about this game and I picked it up even though I already have Tiger Woods.

Fucking great game. Lots of fun challenges, not too hard, not too hard, not too easy. I'm really glad I got this. If you like Golf Games (I've never played IRL, but I like golf games go figure) and you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up. It is so choice.

is PSP better than regular PS or PS2? I will need to get my daughter something for her birthday (plus for me when she's in school  ) and I was considering playstation, besides the portability any other pluses? or minuses

I'm guessing you can't play games for PS on PSP, or can you?

Its almost as powerful as a Playstation 2. When you factor in the smaller screen rez, it is basically a portable PS2 as far as power goes.

The games are on their own format so you can't play PS2 or PS1 games on the system, though some are being ported over.

I'd say the PSP is the right choice to make for the present.

Good thinking! Buying her some new shoes that happen to be your size probably wouldn't fly as a gift but a game console...genius! : )

When is her birthday? Xbox 360 comes out in November. A newly released console would future proof you for awhile (and it will be backward compatible with most of the current Xbox games.)

If portability is the better route, PSP is the clear choice.

Portability sure is interesting, but not a must have for me at the moment.
Her birthday is in September and actually I thought about getting her gift early, something to keep her from going insane during summer. Blockbuster has a crapload of games to rent, so I'm thinking it's probably beter to buy a console with the biggest game selection avaliable.

Thanks for input guys.

I agree with winnow. I'd buy him/her a 360, or a pre-ordered one, why spend $200 on a ps2 that will be outdated and old news within 12 months (that's the maximum) when you can spend $300 on a 360.

Right, that's certainly worth considering.
My daughter will be 9 by the way. I was leaning slightly towards Playstation just because I hear there is a massive number of games to choose from, but maybe I need to look thru titles more carefully to see if I can even choose a reasonable number of games to warrant spending 200-300 bucks. She loved Super Mario stuff, even their RPG, on my old Nintendo system, maybe we'd be better off with Xbox or Gamecube, I forget which one is made by Nintendo

Well looks like I got some more research to do. Thanks again.

At 9, it probably should be a Gamecube or PS2. If you're going to be using it as well, I'd go with PS2 as you can play cool games like Final Fantasy 10 when your daughter is at school. $149 for the PS2 plus whatever a second controller costs would provide lots of entertainment along with providing a spare movie DVD player.

Xbox 360 is going to start out with all more adult oriented stuff.
