Forget everything you've come to know about animation. This movie destroys the old standards and raises the bar far beyond anything currently available. Words cannot describe how fantastic this is.

Not a big fan of anime style but this does indeed look pretty slick.

Saw it on the weekend.
The models, animations and the flawless integration of cel on CGI blew my mind.
The story, pacing, voice acting and dialogue was horrible... I mean really horrible. Every single 'surprise' in the story was foreshadowed by awkward dialogue that served no purpose other than to give you a hint at what was going to happen next. You were literally told what was going to happen next throughout the entire movie. I know it's just anime but the writing/story was embarrasingly bad.
That being said, I would still recommend this movie to anyone with even a passing interest in CGI and/or anime. It's just too bad they didn't have the option on the DVD to turn the dialogue off.

Fantastic animation. I haven't watched anime in quite a while and was completely blown away by the style. Very good stuff.
I was going to get the dvd with the cool model of the giant robot (can't remember his name) but it was 50+ dollars or something. I had to settle for the tin case one

Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends.

The world they created looked great. Especially the water and particles. However I didn't really like how the characters were integrated. Maybe that's the anime style or whatever (I'm not a big fan so I don't know) but it just felt out of place to me.
As for a rating on the movie as a whole I'd give it a 7. It's worth a watch if you like animation.
