Solo Attack Opening Moves

Post by Bubba Grizz »

Just curious how different people and classes approach a solo mob that is 3-4 levels higher than they are.

Druid

Prefight: I have MotW, Thorns, and maybe a potion or two for defense or agility.

Open the Fight:
Starfire
Moonfire
Faerie Fire
Regrowth on self
Moonfire
Bear form

During the Fight:
As needed I will either Bash in bear form then switch to heal or switch and Warstomp, Heal, Moonfire, Bear. If things get a little dicey, like if there is an add or two, I have a potion handy to help out.

Ending the Fight:
If I am in Bear form I will Feral Charge.
If not then I will Entangle and then Moonfire.

As a hunter I pre-mark the mob then pull with Serpent Sting and send Fluffy in to recieve the inc. Hit Aimed shot to give Fluffy a few seconds to gain aggro before I crit on em.

If it is an elite mob I pop intimidation and hit rapidfire. If it is just a normal mob I would continue alternating serpent sting with arcane shot. Throw in a concussion shot before my pet needs a heal so he can get stunned/snared if the heal pulls aggro.

If the mob is going to smush me I hit FD and get back up to fight more. Rinse and repeat.

Im a defensive warrior so my attack is pretty simple. I pop Bloodrage and start the fight immediately. With my attacks and bloodrage, I get enough rage to land sunder armor 5 times to get my target's armor down a lot, which makes rage generation much easier for rest of fight. I spend the rest of the time usually doing the shield block revenge combo, with the occasional heroic strike or concussion blow (if I need to bandage) untill it is dead. If it is an elite mob, I might save some rage to activate shield discipline to soak up some more damage.

Shield Discipline needs love, the duration is way to low to get some good use out of it. By the time it starts and ends, you MIGHT get 3 or 4 blocks out of it. Whoopie I blocked around 300-400 damage. Rage I could have used on something else. Either reduce the cooldown or increase the duration.

Holy Priest

Shield and holy fire before fight

SW:P followed by Mind blast

while MB cycles, I wand and pound with mace

2nd Mind blast, a few wands and then re: SW:P

Usually I will just let the dot tick off and add mace/wand damage to preserve mana as this point.

I can kill level 58-59 mobs this way and still have 80% mana and 80% hps most of the time.

As a rogue, if the mob is alone I usually hide then open with Ambush.

As a NE druid, I'll start with root, then farie fire, and moonfire. If the root is still holding, which it usually is, I'll do starfires until I break root, I always get in at least one more fresh moonfire. I'm pretty lucky with starfires and get a decent amount of stuns, which helps control the flow before I enter melee. Before I even touch them, they should have lost at least a 3rd of thier health.

Then I'll bear form and stun asap followed by demorilizing roar. I save the rest of my rage for a frenzied regen. By the time the fight is done, my mana will be in good shape to rinse and repeat.

If I'm indoors, I'll always start with a ravage from cat form, followed with rake and rip, adding some dots to the fight. I'll have to stand and heal after getting those in, then it's a moonfire and bearform.

Usually I just send in my pet then watch and see if he can kill it. If not then I run like a little girl screaming "MOMMY"
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. Shadow Priest

Prep: Fort, Inner Fire, potions (depending on what I am carrying)

Opening:

PW: S (Bubble)
wait for mana regen to recover to full
Cast Mind Blast and when casting timer is near 75% hit SW: P
Flay
Mind Blast
Flay
Flay
Mind Blast
Flay
Flay
(re-Bubble and SW: P as needed)
...

Nothing that I can actually kill has survived beyond one bubble refresh.

For an elite a few levels higher with adds, I hit Scream when the adds hit melee range and hit it every time it refreshes thereafter. If it is a high DPS mob, I will hit Renew just as bubble fades.

Finally Spirit Tap kicks in and I start to regen at double speed. :)

Flay out
MB
Flay in
Dead

Usually beats 450-500 mana on the shield

That is not a glowing endorsement of your husbands sexual stamina.

In over 50% of the places that I have solo'ed (at various levels) that would result in at least one add.

Additionally, SW: P is undeniably the priest's most efficient source of damage. There is little reason not to use it on any mob that can survive 2x MB and 3x Flay.

Hi Tosh. Miss ya.

As a shadow priest, I have no problems with elites 1-2 levels higher or reg mobs up to 5 levels higher.

Bubble up
MB
SW:P
Flay

If the mob dont hit hard, I just beat the shit out of him with my staff from here and keep myself healed. If it hits hard, fear him away, flay out, flay in, MB, rinse and repeat.

However, my leveling grind of choice is to not play for three days, find a concentration of mobs that are 3-4 levels under me and beat the shit out of the entire zone with my wand. When I feel like a challenge, I might pull 5 mobs on me at once with SW:P just to see how long it takes to mow them down. Much more mana efficient and time efficient when you are getting 200% exp for killing trivial shit. Like when I hit level 33. I went to shimmering flats and just made the circle 3 or 4 times and dinged in like an hour. If I really need to level quickly to get the next L337 same boring ass spell, I 2box my mage and mow down entire zones in minutes. I have a third computer that I was gonna use for a tank, but why? If I feel a terrible need to go to SM, kill everything, burn the place down, rape the women, sell the kids, but I only have about 90 minutes, I just LFG for one. Saves me 14 bucks a month and the hassle of actually putting effort into the game.

In short, I do everything possible to level quickly and not have to play this boring, bug ridden, laggy stinking pile of shit for more than an hour at a time or have to group with the next fucktwit 13 year old b.net kiddie that comes around.

I understand it gets even worse at 60.

Really challenging stuff. 3 days, 18 hours and change to level 38. Hell I think in EQ at 3 and change days played I was probably level 15?
