Game locked up, now computer is running slow...

Post by Dexail »

I was playing a little CoH and zoned into another zone. The game locked up on me and I had to reboot the computer. When I rebooted, the computer is running about 50 times slower than before the crash. For example, I started AVG virus scan before I went to work this morning, and it took 9 1/2 hours to scan. Every thing is like this, opening menus, opening programs, shutting down.

Any ideas what it could be?

ctrl-shift-esc and make sure there's nothing running the CPU while it should be idle?

scan disk and defrag, if that doesnt work, try something someone more knowledgable will most likely post during the time you are doing those two.

Sounds like hardware to me. Try booting into safe mode (pound F8 before the Windows splash screen appears on bootup) and see if it is still slow there. If it is, then my guess would be hardware...although I couldn't be sure what exactly it is.

tried the booting up in safe mode. it ran at normal speed in safe mode. booted back up normally, same thing.. still running waayy slow. Nothing excessive that i can recognize is running in manager. I'm baffled.
