List of Base Closings Announced

Post by Ogbar »

On the first order, good news for me, my lab is not on the list. :)

Beyond that, though, they are closing the Groton Sub Base, which means all subs will now be a plane flight away. Prediction: Groton, CT has a superfund site label in their future.

Looks like mostly financial, reserve centers and recruiting offices. I did not see many actual bases.

That went over well

it will be interesting to listen to the media coverage of this.

Talk Radio absolutely skewered Clinton over this in 1995. This series of closings is larger than that one.

I predict the talking point will however be more in line with "Rumsfeld's TRANSFORMATION of the Military" and the "post-Cold War era", etc.

They're closing the base here in Battle Creek, MI (WK Kellogg on the list). It's kinda funny since they're in the middle of constructing a good 10+ buildings at the site! These are pretty big structures including a couple new hangers for the A-10's.

Oh well, we kept The Federal Center, which employs over 1800 and lost the base which employs about 300. My friend who just got back from Iraq, who works at the base, is going to be a bit dissappointed
