So I decided to take some captures of this DVD as I was watching it... I had seen this particular film a few times and absolutely love it. Why not take some screenies and post them? I find that it can be quite enjoyable to view poignant moments in a film without actually viewing it in its entirety, so here goes:
i didnt particularly care for the movie honestly. the book was very hip while i was in college, but i just thought the movie itself was too boring.
i understand that the character is supposed to be detached and all of that, but the movie to me just had no tone. i understand that the point is that i should be shocked and appalled by "everybody, naked and disfigured". but i wasnt.
I thought parts of the movie were great. There were some slow parts but overall the movie was successful in presenting a certified psycho in all his glory.
I hadn't read the book so had no reference while watching it.
I just read the book a few weeks ago, and it's better than the movie in that it conveys that the character is completely hiding his real personality (the psycho) underneath the veneer of fashion sense and pop culture references. What's more interesting is how that generic personality lets him slide between groups of people, as they just click him in to whatever open slot is present in their group, even calling him by the other person's name.
"There is at least as much need to curb the cruel greed and arrogance of part of the world of capital, to curb the cruel greed and violence of part of the world of labor, as to check a cruel and unhealthy militarism in international relationships." -Theodore Roosevelt
The books is awesome, it's pretty gory and brutal at times, but also funny (a chapter on the various pros and cons of old Genesis albums for example - in extreme detail).
I prefer the book to the film, but that's not a slight on the film, which is great. Bale does a brilliant job, I expect great things from Batman.
