House of Flying Daggers

Post by Fairweather Pure »

It's very much a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon / Hero type of film. I think people either love em or hate em. I happen to enjoy them. Hero had a rather interesting plot coupled with beautiful cinematography. House of Flying Daggers does pretty much the same, but adds what some might consider an even more complex story than Hero. There are even some M Night Shamalan-esque momments that make you want to rewatch the film again once it's over in order to catch the surprising amount of layering of characters and subplots.

As far as the fantasy type/martial art movies, I would rank this a solid 8 out of 10. There are some fun momments in this film, but overall it's a bit heavier than what most might expect.

Bought it on UMD for watching on my PSP, definately agree about it being a deeper story than Hero.

Still good nonetheless, enjoyed the action of the daggers flying through the air.

The biggest problem with this film and pretty much the main reason people don't like it is that it drags too much.

I really liked Crouching Tiger, and thought Hero was pretty good.

However Flying Daggers is without a doubt the worst martial arts movie I have seen. A friend of mine and I joke about the fact that it's a movie about trees, because that's really the focus of everything it seems. Pictures of trees, then more pictures of trees, then different pictures of trees.

This movie was terribly boring and drug on until the point that I felt like beating myself to death with my cell phone.

Crouching Tiger was an entertaining movie. I thought Hero went too far with the goofy flying and outlandish enemy numbers and bazillion arrows etc...and sloooooooow moving story. There's only so far you can take artistic impression and Hero crossed the line IMO.

I enjoyed it.
Wasn't typical high flying wire fighting action... It was a love story first and foremost that happened to have some very stylized action scenes.
