GTA San Andreas problem

Post by Dregor Thule »

Ok, just recently got this one. My brothers been able to play it fine on his friends PS2, but when he brought it here it wouldn't run. Just gives the message asking to insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc. Anyone know why this might be happening?

Oh yea.. my machine isn't that old, say 1 1/2 years. His friends is a lot newer.

Do you use your PS2 as a DVD player? I've read that after prolonged DVD reading the drive can have game reading problems.

Have you tried a disk drive cleaner disk? With the little brushes on it? Might clean the lens of dust and the like

my friend just had this problem, it is your disk drive =(

ghetto solutions include the old nes treatment of restarting your game over and over until the ps2 reads it (which should happen eventually), or leaving your ps2 on at all times. though the latter will do more bad than good in the long run.

Anyone know if Sony will replace this? It's mostly used for DVD viewing yes. I'll try the cleaner.

Well, turned on the ps2 today to try the repeated restart method out and the damned game loaded first try. Loaded it again later and it worked fine again. Damned flakey machine.

On a darker note, I've learned that I absolutely suck at controlling all aspects of movement and fighting in GTA games. TT

Hmm, this is a trend it seems, both my room mates last year had PS2's. Both PS2's were about a year and a half old. Both PS2's started not reading discs.

Two other friends experienced the same problem about a year and a half in.

I would have expected them to last a bit bloody longer than that, hell, even SNES's are still working after all these years (and often their games are better, ala Mario Kart).
