Third time this week
Saw the third car spun off the road in a weeks time on my way home yesterday. It's a small windy road along the river. Narrow windy road + wet pavement = submerged car in case #2, she belly flopped right into the (salt)water and had 6" of roof showing.
You'd think people would be smart enough to slow down when it's wet, the guard rails and fences along that stretch take a serious beating. Some guy playing "race car" in a SUV managed to roll there not too long ago. He ended up trashing someones yard rather that going into the river though.
The road is very well posted, reduced speed, yellow arrows, etc.. and runs through residential areas, with limited through traffic. It's not like people who aren't familiar with the area travel it much.
Stupid people annoy me.

"Life is what happens while you're making plans for later."
I work in the mountains, and there are some twisty turny roads on the road to and from the office. At least 1 person dies every 2 weeks along a 5 mile stretch of US 285. Two weeks ago, it was a light snowfall when some lawyer did his Toonces the Cat impersonation, flying 300 feet down the hillside. His passengers were wearing their seatbelts, so they survived, but he wasn't so he got thrown out the car and left body parts on the hillside. Two weeks before that, some crazy lady was going about 90mph down the hill when her the tire on her suv blew out, rolling it, and tossing her 6 month old out of the truck. The kid died on the helicopter ride to the hospital.
I've come to the conclusion that the only way to get people to slow down, or at least be careful, at all is to push the wrecks off to the side of the road and leave them there forever. "Windy point" already has enough crosses planted in the median and side of the road to make it look like you are driving through a cemetary.

That's a good idea. The road from Phoenix to Las Vegas is loaded with crosses from traffic deaths, but mangled cars and trucks would be a better deterrent I think. Then again, there's no way to stop the drunk, pissed off from losing in Vegas, in a rush to get to vegas, late for work from gambling too long in Vegas, tired from staying up all night in Vegas, people from killing others on that road.Tangurena wrote:

Probably wouldn't help any. Everyone always thinks the same thing: "It wont happen to me. I know how to drive." And then the SUV owners who think they are invincible.Tangurena wrote:I've come to the conclusion that the only way to get people to slow down, or at least be careful, at all is to push the wrecks off to the side of the road and leave them there forever.

No shit. I can't believe the road has remained two lanes for so long between two close large cities. A lot of the way to Vegas is four lanes but there are still long stretches that need to be expanded.Truant wrote: Would help if it weren't a two lane fucking road.
The new bridge bypassing Hoover/Boulder Dam should help as well with traffic.
