I *heard* dunno for sure... I didn't see the report first hand.

But now the parents are fighting over burial rights. Husband says she wanted to be cremated. Parents don't want that.

Again, secondhand...

Regardless of what you think about the Shiavo case....her husband was a complete and total asshole because he would not let the family be with her during her final hourse. Michael Schiavo had the police keep her family (mother, father, brother) out of the hospice room until after she died.

I have two daughters (still children). I cannot imagine being in a situation like this and on top of it having my daughter's husband preventing me from being with my child during her final hours. You know, the least this guy can do is let the parents spend time with her while she dying. And while he is at it he could at least let the parents take care of the funeral arrangements and choose the place of burial. It is not like this guy plans on being buried/interred side by side with her. He moved on with his life long ago (new woman and children).

I just get the sense that Michael Schiavo has decided to kick the Schindlers when they are already down. I could be wrong, but that is the feeling I am getting.

I think he didnt want to let them in because he didnt want to face the drama. I can understand that, but he should of just bit the bullet, let them in and endure them for at least 1 more day. Then, he would never hear from them again.

Yeah, more than likely they would've been spouting off some "This is all your fault, you murderer! You're killing her!" etc. etc. Either way, I agree; it's still fucking cold to keep the family out when she died.

They may have slipped in a feeding tube if let in early.

CNN has a picture of Shiavo in her prime. To be fair, they should have 2 hour movie of her in her bed to show how she was before the feeding tube was taken out to balance things out.

All the nice picture does is confuse people into thinking a healthy individual died. I'm glad this is over mostly because of the drama the media created to keep selling ads on their websites and commercials.

a large part of the drama has been orchestrated by political groups who are doing a few things:

1. promoting affiliated 'right to life'/'pro life' agendas
2. working with conservative elements to generate attention for this so that it can be used in propaganda campaigns to weaken the judiciary.

you have already heard, and you will hear more of, conservatives saying that this along with gay marriage, the 10 commandments in courthouses*, and other such things - that this is the work of "activist judges", and the judiciary needs to be held accountable, etc. Even though the Supreme Court had 3 or 4 chances to rule on this and they are hardly a liberal body. Even though the moderate to conservative 11th Circuit Court also had 4, 5 rulings? No person in American history has had more judicial review probably.

but let's leave the Constitution out of this, and dispationate discharge of duty, and what does the Rule of Law have to do with anything.

Let the propaganda roll.

Tom Delay just said "the time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior".

same Tom Delay who pulled the plug on his dad. nevermind that though.

* did you know that hte reason the 10 commandments are in most public buildings around the country is part of a movie promotion? "The 10 Commandments" movie from the 40s or 50s (w/ Charleston HEston as Moses) worked with a non-religious group called something like Order of the Eagle to have these 10 commandment monuments put all over the place to promote the movie.

I'm so glad this poor woman has passed away now. She'll be at peace, finally. They should have given her a morphine overdose weeks ago.

Sadly, her legacy will be that of a political pawn.

Don't think of it as the death of a human being.. Think of it as the birth of a political opportunity for a power grab.

Because I can assure you, that's how washington is thinking about it.

As if anyone there gives a fat flying fuck about human life.

according to Mr.Schiavo's lawyer who is giving a news conference right now:

the Hospice Administrator requested all people leave Terri's room at 8:45 so they could perform an "assessment". At that time Terri's brother and sister were in the room. The brother did not want to leave and had a verbal confrontation with the law enforcement officer there.

As a result of that, Michael Schiavo did not have the brother and sister come back in at 9:03 when she died. The Schindler parents made no request to visit this morning, and Terri's mother has not visited since Easter.

After she died, the parents were contacted, they came in and stayed as long as they wanted, etc.

Not saying that is the way it happened, but just the other side of the story.

Local news over here said that Shiavo's brother got in a little heated argument (don't completely remember, something to that effect though) with one of the officers over at the hospital shortly before she died. I think he kept them out to prevent a confrontation, which was more than likely going to happen

From what I have read, not too soon after her heart attack, the husband was trying everything he could to get her to respond. A set of doctors in CA tried implanting metal electrodes in her brain to stimulate it. Not only would the metal make an MRI unreadable, but since it uses magnetism, it could move the electrodes causing even more damage - possibly life ending. That is why he has asked for a full autopsy to show everyone that she was truely gone.

One of the front page writers for SomethingAwful summed up my thoughts very well - better than I could have, anyway:
Zack Parsons wrote:First and foremost my sincerest condolences go out to the Schindler family for the final loss of their legal battle to save their daughter Terri Schiavo. Your grunting and drooling meat-shell suffered kidney failure followed by heart failure and finally her bone-dry husk stopped functioning completely. I understand your loss, all the more profound because Terri's immortal soul is simply a shallow conceit of hokey spiritualism. Her soul was nothing more than a crackling nest of nerve impulses that largely stopped existing when her own brand of starvation resulted in a heart attack 15 years ago. Even her emaciated flesh will soon be gone as the grim kiln of the crematorium bubbles and melts and sears her flesh until she is nothing but ash.

I really hope that your daughter's ultimate sacrifice - becoming a humiliating public spectacle for your financial and political gain and a tool for the character assassination of her husband - will pay dividends down the road and allow the Republican dominated legislative and executive branch to erode the checks and balances imposed by the tyranny of the judicial branch. Just like Terri always wanted. Perhaps her memory will live on amid the creeping buboes of Culture of Life groups and their shadowy revenue streams. Adieu Terri Schaivo, may you become the Horst Wessel of our time. Your death was not in vain. Millions, full of hope, look up at the stars and stripes.

the religious right has even more reason to hate Catholics now, as the Pope totally stole the thunder they had worked for weeks to drum up for Ms. Schiavo.

if those idiots had their way, they would have dragged her around town on a meat wagon.

This was not murder... given almost 15 years to 'recover' from her injuries, if she can't feed herself or keep herself alive.. at the very harshest I would consider it an accedent.

I think it's kinda funny that the religous have tried to take up the defense of her parents... you'd think someone that beleived in a higher power would realize that keeping the body alive, and possibly forcing the mind to suffer for years on end, when god- or whoever- may have intended for them to have died decades ago.
