First off, I have no idea where the connection to the other Exorcist movies start in this film. Maybe something is slipping my mind, but this movie certianly shouldn't have the Exorcist title at all.
It was one of the most predictable movies I've seen in years. It breaks absolutely no new boundries and follows the standard horror movie formula to a "T". It had momments that made you jump, and perhaps a part or 2 that were just plain creepy. Most of the creepy stuff involved religious iconography and the perversion of standard Christian beliefs.
More than anything, this movie was disgusting. It had some of the most graphic and gruesome scenes I've viewed in a movie in a long ass time. Moreover, many were done simply for the gross-out or shock value. Sure, someone could argue that something like Final Destination was more graphic, but at least the gore was part of the story. In this film, I really didn't need to see the cute German girl get shot in the head, IN SLOW MOTION, 5 seperate times in the movie to get the fucking point they were trying to make. These were full on, up close, no camera fading to black BS either. I also didn't need to see the dead baby getting yanked straight from the mother's womb covered with maggots. I could go on and on, but I won't.
5 out of 10. The only thing that saved it from a 3 was the eerie religious references and few genuine scares. When it comes to gore, less is more. This movie just gets way out of control.

a 5 is very very generous. What a piece of crap. Rarely can a overly gory movie be this boring. This movie accomplished that feat in spades.
I say go with the 3 out of ten rating.

When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
Fair, the Tie in to the first Exorcist movie is the Priest, that is Father Marin(sp) in his younger days (he was the old priest that was in the first exorcist movie) this story was supposed to be when he First encountered Pazuzu, thats supposedly why he was called in to fix linda blair later on.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this movie a -1,569 I thought it was a total snore fest....matter of fact I did fall asleep about half way through.

Watched this waste of celluloid two nights ago. I was waiting and waiting for the scary parts...they never came. Stellan Skarsgard did a good job...but the movie was severely lacking.
The "scariest" scene was the opening scene...after that...it wasn't even as scary or disturbing as some parts of Willy Wonka were...
