I could do the reading of 40000000 gamer sites, read 8 million reviews or I could ask VV. I think in this case VV is the subject matter expert over all the websites on the planet. Okay due to step children I am going to break down and get a console game, and in a few years I will switch them into a real system. Right now I am leaning towards the PS2 based on the game Katari Damarcy since I have a KD junky in the family.
But for now, I need the input of VV, PS2 or Xbox?
If I pick one, what will I need to add to it right off the bat to make it worthwhile? (replace sucky oem controllers, memory cards etc)

before the fanbois on either side chime in...
if you're going to spend the money and get the extra stuff, and buy games for it... both of them are good choices. most of the top titles are on both..
bonus for ps2 is being a dvd player without any extras... xbox requires dvd remote.
bonus for xbox is ability to hack the bios, load games on the drive, be a pirate, etc.
i've had both.. i liked both..
<- would wait for xbox2

XBox is the better console.
If you're planning on investing money in games and keeping it awhile, I'd wait and see when the XBox 360 (that is officially the new XBox's name now) is coming out (Most likely November). It should be backwards compatible.
If this will never be hooked up to a HDTV and you plan to upgrade later to PS3, XBox 360 or Nintendo Revolution, it doesn't much matter whether you get PS2 or XBox.

This is not purely a video game issue, and that forum gets half the notice this one does. Now go back to blowing off your goat.

That forum gets plenty of play from people who know about consoles and video games other than EQ/EQ2/WoW. I'm not surprised you're not aware of it. You're head's so far up your ass I'm surprised you can even see your TV to play a console game.
For what it's worth, X-box, but I'd wait until the new consoles come out. If you absolutely cannot wait get a refurbed system from a place like gamestop.
You're still a fucking asshole.

I own a PS2, I like it a lot. However, it seems like all the big titles go to both systems. And it seems that Xbox has some other awesome games for Xbox only. If I had to pick which one to get, I would pick up Xbox just because some of the games catch my interest. Grass is greener, you know?
I know you said it was just to buy and screw with a bit until you buy a better system. So I do not see much need to wait till E3.

In all honesty, I'd be a little hesitant of getting a refurbed Xbox system. I know mine is plagued with dirty disk errors but since I can't save the games to a memory card to copy to another system, I'm basically fucked unless i buy a box and ship the hunk of shit off to MS. Either buy it new or wait a bit to find out if the next system will be backward compatible.
As a rsult of my system's reliability issues, I've used my PS2 for the omst part for the last couple of years. Since the only tv I own is a 25" RCA circa 1990, it's not as if I'm on the cusp of technological wonderment so I don't really notice a difference between the two system's capabilities.

Why don't you just use your fingers for something more worthy than typing on your leet pc such as sticking them up you and your boyfriend's assEveryone giving input in this goddamn thread is a regular in the VG forum you asshole.
I don't think they'll go much cheaper than 149.00. With new consoles most likely costing, at minimum, 299.00 and maybe higher, the old consoles should sell well at 149.00 until they run out of them. At most, they might throw in extra games etc.Trias wrote:wait till the end of may...as price drops for all the mainstream systems happen at this point...is usually done via big announcement at E3
this has happened for the past two years for xbox and ps2...i wonder if it will happen again this year ^^

Funny thing is that's not an issue with "refurbished" x-box's...it's an issue with ANY x-box. My first one had the Dirty Disk issues out of the box.Chidoro wrote:In all honesty, I'd be a little hesitant of getting a refurbed Xbox system. One of my girls is turning 10 the other is 11 nearing twelve.
I ended up getting an Xbox, DVD remote, 2 MS controllers, Splinter Cell, Clone Wars, and two other games for 175 with shipping.

Both Systems are excellent, but considering who you are buying it for, I would lean towards PS2 (which if I could only choose one system, would be my choice as well) for several reasons.
First off, you have a much wider selection of games on the PS2 with more exclusive titles. Xbox has Halo, Halo2, and Mech Warrior for exclusive titles, where as the PS2 has the entire library of Square/Enix and Capcom titles, not to mention the entire PS1 library being backwardly compatable. If your step kids are purely twitch gamers, then the Xbox might win out on this point, however, as Halo is as good as it gets for console shooters. If your step kids are big on RPGs, or any other Japanese dominated genre for that matter, PS2 wins hands down.
Second major reason I would lean towards a PS2 is (at least in my personal experience) reliability. Some well established stock games on XBox have issues even running properly on a brand new Xbox. Most rescent example I have had is Fable not running in 480p (or any other hi def resolution) despite the box flatly stating otherwise. I had similar issues with other games in the past. I have also had problems with lockups on the Xbox on several titles, which has virtually never happened to me on my PS2. Referb Xboxes are also notoriously unreliable. Based on the experiences of friends, I would never personally purchase a referb Xbox. If your step kids are going to drag the unit around and generally abuse the shit out of it, then a PS2 is going to handle that level of abuse far better.
Last major reason probably won't matter to your stepkids, but I have never used an Xbox controller that didn't just piss me off with its uncomfortable design and shitty (for fighting games) digital direction pad. Some of the buttons are in some really odd locations on the controller, especially the white and black buttons on most of the older (and all the stock) controllers. The only controller I have ever used that I liked less was the old N64 controller. The basic PS2 controller is light and comfortable to use, with a superior digital pad. The Xbox does have out of the box 4 controller ability, however, so that might be a consideration.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Everything Jice said is bullshit! jk
I have no issue with the X-Box controller and it's MUCH better for racing games with the triggers.
The game thing has been gone over before. It's almost a moot point now with XBox starting to rack up its own exclusive games and stuff like GTA: San Adreas first released for PS2, coming to the X-Box 6 months later. (you shouldn't be getting that for young kids anyway)
I had no problem with Fable playing 480p. That could very well be a TV issue, not xbox.
I also have both PS2 and XBox so am not in the dark about the PS2's capabilities. I loved Final Fantasy X but one game doesn't determine a purchase (well it did for me : ) but I played FFX and played GTA San Andreas for 20 minutes until the subpar PS2 graphics made my stomach turn and I put my PS2 back in the closet. People here are smoking crack if they don't recognize the much better/smoother graphics of GTA3 and GTA: Vice City on the XBox. It's all over the web in reviews. I won't insult your intelligence by linking all the reviews that state flat out it's better on the XBox.
Kylere. Get X-Men: Legends. You're an XMen fan, this is a kick ass third person view, action/adventure/RPG game that's on the top of just about everyone's list for it's category. It's not too hard for for kids, has tons of comic references, lots of levels and leveling up, and some of the best multiplayer action you can get. Multiplay also allows you to add and drop (up to 4 players on one X-Box) at anytime, so you can jump in and help out and leave the game at anytime while the other person (s) continue to play.

Who the fuck would want to post in a forum moderated by two retards. Further after your moving of a topic from the sports section I would think you would attempt to fly under the radar on this one. Fool.

Much the same as Kylere did by posting here.noel wrote:I'm posting this here because it's a current event, and there are people in this forum that know more than I do.
This question was raised by Kluden in the sports forum regarding the recent announcement that congress will issuing subpoenas to current and former MLB players regarding steroid use.
My response was"Kluden wrote:Can someone explain to me why my tax dollars are being used in this way? What does congress have to do with baseball?I know that congress has gotten involved in professional sporting labor negotiations in the past, but truly other than publicity, what reason other than the concept that I listed, should congress have for getting involved in the MLB steroid issue? It can be argued that if baseball players are using steroids, they're cheating.
It can be argued that if players are cheating, they're defrauding the public.
It can be argued that one of the roles of our congressmen is to represent the public interest.
It can be argued that the public is interested in knowing whether or not there are players hurting the integrity of what has been called 'our national pasttime'.

I just did, and you're still wrong.
You seem to be missing the point, a question wasa raised about tax dollars. That had no place in the sports forum.
See the part you bolded, looks like the opposite of what you just said.Second it was an attempt by Noel to point out how particularly insightful he was on this topic.

Noel traditionally starts out self effacing when he is contravening the rules, then he followed up with his own "incredible" commentary on the subject.Lynks wrote:I just did, and you're still wrong.

Fact is he moved a topic from the sports section that is totally sports related regardless of where the thread meandered to. But in typical Noel fashion he dons his spiked helmet, goose-stepping boots and chastises someone else for doing the same fucking thing.
Noel should shaddap.

Baseball belongs in the current events forum about as much as congress does in the sports forum. That post could be in either forum and fit right in with the discussion.
Conclusion: You're wrong Atokal and everybody that you're arguing with is right.
If you want to get nitpicky about which post belongs where then I'd like to add my opinion that any post you contribute to should go to the retards forum.

Jice hit the nail on the head Kylere. It comes down to what you want to play really. I think Xbox is a better system, but ps2 has way more games that I want to play. (Xbox is severely hurting for RPGS, it has Kotor 1 and 2, and fable was a giant pos). The coolest thing about Xbox is the modchip and the ability to add giant hard drives to store movies/games/etc. (If you get your xbox modded you don't need the stupid dvd dongle and remote to watch DVDs either)

I see Atokal is still the master of talking out of his ass.
In my mind, there are and were two separate issues. One is a sports related issue from the perspective of the sports fan. The other is the political/tax dollar issue from the perspective of the informed constituent. Given that MLB is protected by an anti-trust agreement which is clearly a business related issue, I felt that it would be useful to get a differing perspective (different from a sports fan) on the business and political issues.
Kylere's post was entirely video game specific, and should have been posted in the correct forum. Had he bothered to do a search in the video game forum, he would have seen that his question had been answered multiple times, and he might not have even needed to make a post.

Sports/Racing, or if your ok with modding it to be a media center/emulator xbox is the way to go.
RPG/Platformer/Action I'd go PS2
Sadly GC actually has a few really good games that also might be worth the 99$ of the system. Metroid/Zelda/RE4 and..Tales of Destiny?
My xbox however is now in my sons room, and the ps2 in the "gaming/computer" room due to there being more games of every genre compared to the xbox.
