Devil May Cry 3

Post by Akaran_D »

Has anyone had a chance to play this yet?
Going to rent it next week, but want to know what I'm getting into.. is it more like the haunted house of hell in DMC1 or the city roaming in DMC2? How are the boss fights, how are the weapon setups, ect?

All I heard is that its hard as fuck, which is pretty much normal for that series. I think dying a certain amount of times unlocks easy mode.

DMC1 wasn't hard.. DMC2 was so so.
So.. this game offers a good challenge?

The commercial I saw for it made it look like a fighter, but I think it's an action game...

Apparently it's really hard.

Uhh Think resident evil type fixed camera views with guns and acrobatics and swords and morphing into a demon!!! Like next to no puzzles and lots of fighting...

They're fun but probably not games that I'll pull off the shelf for nostalgic value (just played through Parasite Eve again :)) but if you like action games they're worth trying at least once. There's something about DMC2 that I just did not like (it seemed like nothing worthy was added or improved since the first) but the difficulty aspect of DMC3 may be enough for me to want to overlook that and try it anyways.

I had heard that the X-Box Ninja Gaiden game borrowed heavily from DMC.

Ninja Gaiden was also hard as fuck but fun as hell

DMC 2 is the only one I played in the series so far, and the closest any game comes to the fighting style is Prince of persia I'd say. dmc2 was pretty fun but a bit repetitive, I didn't find it to be all that challenging.

DMC1 was a good game. I heard DMC2 wasn't very good. DMC3 I'm not too interested in as I've also heard how hard it is without also hearing anything about how great it is. But definitely try DMC1 if you haven't.

I thought this game was supposed to be Castlevania-inspired-ish... ?

Is this the 'Gay Vampire' genre?

It's not quite a platform jumper, it isn't quite just a 'go and shoot' game, but it combines elements of both + melee combat to round itself off with.

If you haven't played DMC1, you are doing yourself some serious injustice.

Stragi, you are out of your damn mind. That one statement alone has rendered your credibility on the history of videogames down to that of the credibility that sweetkastings has for judging IQ, you poor soul.

Noel: Think Castlevania mixed with Final Fight with swords, guns, a 3d perspective that works, and really sweet cutscenes made with the ingame graphics engine. Not on par with FF cutscenes, but still very enjoyable to watch.

The game started this sort of action platform shooter hybrid was actually Oni (PS2/PC Bungie title), but if you want to get realy anal, System Shock 2 was probably the first (and incorperated RPG elements).
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

Devil May Cry 1 is a must play. A very unique feel to the game, made possible by the excellent distortion effects of the engine, with a kind of rapid-firing combo driven frenzy... The environment, the camera views, and the jumping, combos, acrobatics, morphing, distortion, and lighting seem so perfect..

DMC3 on "normal" is Japans version of Hard, our easy is Japans normal

So yeah its moderatly hard (I pussied out and went to easy mode). Pretty solid game so far, fun fights having 3 styles makes for some replayability.
