Republic Commando
The Demo is available all over the net.
I downloaded it and tried it out.
While I think the idea is stellar, I think the execution sucks. I was expecting the (as advertised) tactical first person shooter. There seemed to be a lot of shooting, but little tactics involved. I think it looks good, though a bit cartoony ala Halo, but just way too arcadey for my personal taste. It's worth looking at though as the demo is only a ~400MB download.
As an aside, KotOR:2 is available for the PC tomorrow.

Yeah, this isn't as 'tactical' as I'd like, and some of the HUD displays need a bit of tweaking. I cna't tell if the game is body aprt sensitive or not; I think it is, but not very (you can blow the helmets off of your targets, but if you hammer them in their exposed head, they don't always go down). I also think that they need to tighten up the aiming reticule... something I can shove a roll of dollar-coins through is not conductive to perfect aiming.
But, I may buy it.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Well polish my nuts and serve me a milkshake... this game is actually good.
Why the demo had to suck copious amounts of ass I'm not sure, but the released game is tactical, action packed, entertaining, and fucking fun.
I highly recommend picking it up if you're looking for a FPS to pass the time. Perhaps more linear than some of you would like, but fun (largely due to it being well scripted IMHO) nonetheless.

I personally hate having to aim with a joystick.
The game isn't the second coming of robot jesus, but it's really fun. I agree with Trias. It seems like I'm about halfway through it, and I've only been playing for 3-4 hours. That said, I've enjoyed all 3-4 hours immensely. I've heard the multiplayer is ass, but I'm not all that worried about the multiplayer.
So I could see where it could get a bad review for the above reasons, but the game is still a lot of fun.

Downloaded it this weekend for XBox to try out. It's not bad. I adjusted the thumbstick look so it was slower allowing me to aim better and that helped a bunch.
Seems OK but after playing Brothers in Arms on the PC, I can't deal with the FPS type pointing on console games.
I grabbed a game called Scrapland (XBox) as well this weekend that has a little more character to it and originality. It's very colorful as well. I recommend this one for a download tryout off the newsgroups.
I also grabbed Snowblind (XBox). I enjoyed Snowblind for the 10 minutes I played it more than the 10 minutes I played SW Commando! I'm FPS'd out on the XBox though. When I FPS, I like to kill actual humans. Robots and freaky looking creatures don't satisfy my bloodlust like killing another person in a WW2 game for example. It's like EQ...the freakier the monsters got, the less interested I was.
SW: Commando, Snowblind and HALO2 all are about the same in singleplayer but HALO2 is better in multiplayer. I haven't played SW Commando multiplayer but the knock on it is the multiplayer part of the game.
