Actual Production cost of a blank CD

Post by Kylere »

Can anyone find a solid source for the actual production cost? Not mastering, not the data/music, but the typical cost for a blank CD when ordered mass scale (like 20k or more at a time) or the actual cost of materials in a blank cd.

wow theyve fallen a bit... buying in a quantity of 1200 you get them for 12 cents each.. like a pack of ramen noodles. they must cost like a nickel.

I would think the production cost would be rated "commercial in confidence" information.

I'd go w/ Fash's estimate though, perhaps even a cent less.

Nope, my wife is the artist, I am the techie :-) Besides which, she is much more fun to watch than me.

woo reading comprehension... blank empty cd's, preferrably production cost of the material and nothing else. but yeah that's hard to estimate... unless you call some major place and quote an order for 50,000 blanks.. and even still there will be some markup in that.

It depends on what he's looking at, commercial aluminum disks are much cheaper in quantity than die based "retail" type disks. Longer data life too.

So yes, reading comprehension is pretty good :D

Other than for "one offs", we farm CD\DVD creation out, it's not worth the time to burn them if you aren't set up for it.
