Division III B-Ball

Post by Deward »

The big Division III tournament is here again. My (and Bubba's) alma mater, UW-Stevens Point, scored a first round bye this year and at least 1 home game. UWSP is the reigning national champs at this level. This is a fun level to watch B-Ball because the players are playing for free (i.e. no scholarships) and there are no where near as many whiners. UWSP actually came close to beating Marquette (Div I school) several months ago.

Here is the bracket for those interested. http://www.ncaasports.com/basketball/me ... /2005/DIII

The winner of the SCAC goes on, this year (and for the past 3 years) it's been Trinity (Tex.). Oglethorpe (my school) lost in the finals last year and this year we lost first round due to losing one of our best players.

I'm still trying to make it to the NCAA DIII Tennis Championships though :)

UWSP made it past the second round with a drubbing of Lawrence 79-45. They actually allowed Lawrence 80 points last year. But we absolutely smoked them this year. Hopefully we can get the sectionals at home. UWSP was number one in Div III polls last I saw but the morons gave them the third seed in one of the brackets. UWSP has to do it this year because they are losing 6 seniors this year and probably their coach.

UWSP is still in the hunt for a repeat of their 2004 National Championship. They won their sectionals last weekend with a trouncing of Puget Sound (WA) and a tough contest against Trinity (TX). They are now headed to the Final Four in Salem, VA. Anyone who lives around there could find some good entertainment for cheap. If I wasn't married and had a kid to take care then I would bus over for the Final Four. I wish they would televise those games but I will be able to catch them on the radio.

UWSP blew through the Final Four to repeat as Division III national champions. They beat Rochester 73-49 in the largest margin of victory in a championship game. I wish they could play Marquette again because I think we would beat them this time. This team is pretty much toast next year, they are losing six seniors and likely the head coach. They have soem good freshman but it will be a couple years to develop them.
