Academy Awards

Post by Funkmasterr »

Just got finished watching, and although you can pretty much judge whats going to happen before hand, one thing stuck out for me.

Jamie Foxx winning best actor for Ray. I was very afraid and almost convinced that he would not win this award because of the infrequency that they give it to black people. I thought it was very much deserved, and was going to break something if he lost to leonardo DiCrappio.

Although I thought the movie itself wasn't anything special, Ray was worth sitting thru just to watch Jamie Foxx's performance. He really hit his mannerisms fairly head on. I'm glad to see he picked up the actor's award.

I really can't comment on much else about the winners as I've only seen a handful of movies this year (most not among the nominations) but I'm glad to see Charlie Kaufman get some recongnition for his work on Eternal Sunshine.
Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends.

I'll probably get eaten alive for this, but...they gave Million Dollar Baby way too much

They robbed the Aviator and frankly Hillary Swank is nothing but a carwash cunt with the innate ability of crapping out a movie every few years where she is the most non-heteronormative, non-gender minded, non-atypical woman there could be...she's nothing but trash :?

Didn't a couple of 'black people' win both of the best act(or/ess) a few years ago?

Hehe Fesuni, don't hate on Hillary Swank. She's a very good actress with a penchant for getting some incredible roles every few years.

Denzel and Hallie won a couple years ago.

but if you are suggesting that the concern expressed was not warrented, just look at the fact that Morgan Freeman won his FIRST oscar last night. That is a joke.

but the oversight is not limited to those criteria, as Scorsese is 0 for 5. From what i heard in my dept, people liked "Baby" a lot better than "Aviator", but i havent seen anything.

Obviously you did not like Million Dollar Baby nor do you care for Hillary Swank. She is a damn fine actress however...I never wanted to see Boys Don't Cry nor did I intend on seeing Million Dollar Baby...but she was so good in both.

I watched Million Dollar Baby on Saturday night. She was great in the movie. And without giving any spoiler info...her latter scenes were simply sublime.

Your opinion of her must be based on some interesting feelings you have developed about women in general...either that or you have mangina lovin' for Leonardo Decrapio...

Can someone tell my why Phantom of the Opera didn't win anything?

It's kinda rare that a musical is brought to the screen, and I thought they did it very well....(Not that I've seen the broadway version...)

Was suprised Hotel Rwanda didn't get more noiminations...I haven't seen Ray, but I was hoping Don Cheadle would best actor. He's been around a long time and has had several good roles and this time he deserved the oscar for Hotel Rwanda. Such a great performance.

I'm not suprised that with all the nominations, The Aviator came home with very few awards. I thought it was waaaay too big budget and tried to please Hollywood too much. I love Scorcese, and it's amazing that he's never won an oscar for directing, but The Aviator was far from his best work.

My theory is that Scorcese keeps losing because he's making movies specifically to win the Oscar and it's way too obvious. I did not watch the Aviator but this is my theory regardless. Gangs of New York was certainly an overly melodramatic stab at glory that had fallen short before it began.
