'Final Fantasy' creator to make 2 games for new console
Updated: 8:54 p.m. ET Feb. 24, 2005LOS ANGELES - Microsoft has enlisted Hironobu Sakaguchi, credited with creating the legendary “Final Fantasy” series of role-playing video games, to make two games for the next Xbox game console, the company said Thursday.
Microsoft offered few details on the games, other than to say they were role-playing titles already under development by Sakaguchi’s studio, Mistwalker.
The current-generation Xbox struggled in Japan from the very start, a problem blamed on a lack of games that appeal to the market. Sakaguchi would help change that, Microsoft said.
“It’s quite frankly a mistake we don’t intend to make twice,” said Peter Moore, corporate vice president for worldwide Xbox marketing and publishing, in an interview. “(We’re) very excited to have a developer of his stature, a true rock star in the industry.”
Microsoft has not said when it will release the next version of its Xbox console, although the games industry almost universally expects the new hardware this holiday season.
(MSNBC is a Microsoft - NBC joint venture.)
Microsoft is not acquiring Sakaguchi’s studio, but is funding the development of the games and providing resources to him from Microsoft Game Studios, Moore said.
He added more details would be revealed in the next few months. The industry will gather in Los Angeles in May for E3, its annual trade show, and again in September for the Tokyo Game Show.
edit: I originally intended the subject to be a question, and I just noticed I left of the question mark

Team Ninja and now the FF series on XBox2 is a nice move. Now they just need to make a deal to have GTA games released the same time on Xbox2 as PS3 GTA games are released and there's no reason to get a PS3. (pending specs and performance)
Wait. Did I miss something? The final fantasy franchise is coming to Xbox? I was pretty sure it was just FF's creator's new company that was working on games for xbox not the actual final fantasy franchise.

Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends. Cortana
Akaran of Mistmoore, formerly Akaran of Veeshan I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.
PS2 games are still better than XBOX games. The *only* reason the XBOX is cool is because you can FTP games and crap to a hacked one. Take that away and it's a door stop.

That's not the only reason. The graphics are better. I have both consoles with unlimited access to games on both systems and I can plainly see X-Box games are better looking than PS2. There's no doubt unless you don't have a HDTV then you're not in a position to judge. Even GTA: San Andreas was only enough for me to break out the PS2 for maybe 2 days. It's no contest.
Just having Sakaguchi's name on a couple of games will triple sales of the new xbox. Hell it might encourage me to buy one. The xbox has a lot of problems providing decent rpgs. They need to stop making the damn racing games. I was at Menard's the other day and they must have had 30 different racing games.
