Prosecutor faces indecent exposure charges

KEY WEST — A prosecutor in the Monroe County State Attorney's Office was arrested Monday morning after a police officer allegedly found him standing, drunk and naked, in the parking lot of a Key West motel.
Albert Tasker, who works in the Upper Keys branch of the state prosecutor's office, told Officer Matt Dorgan he had been drinking with friends and thought it would be funny to take off his clothes and run to a friend's car in the parking lot, according to a report filed with the Key West Police Department.
But Tasker apparently got into the back seat of the wrong car — a car in which a woman was waiting for her boyfriend. The woman screamed, the boyfriend appeared, the woman called 911, and when Dorgan arrived, he found Tasker in the middle of the parking lot, according to the report.
Tasker, 28, faces charges of disorderly intoxication and indecent exposure, both misdemeanors, and officials with the State Attorney's Office said a request has been sent to Gov. Jeb Bush's office to appoint a special prosecutor to handle the criminal complaints.
The chief assistant state attorney for Monroe County, J. Jefferson Overby, explained that the request for a special prosecutor avoids any appearance of a conflict of interest.
Tasker also has been placed on administrative leave without pay, and the State Attorney's Office is conducting an internal review of the incident, Overby said.
"It's terribly embarrassing for both him and for us, and we'll wait to see how the facts unfold," said Overby.
State Attorney's Office spokesman Matthew Helmerich added that the agency is "taking the matter very seriously."
"We are investigating the matter, and we will take appropriate action," he said.
