Hyjal is down again. It goes down so often I feel like I do not have an account some days.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. So that justifies shitty service?Fairweather Pure wrote:There is no waiting in EQ2 because there aren't 1/2 the amount of players as there are in WoW.
If GM sells more cars than Ford does that mean that GM has a perfectly legitimate excuse if some of their cars take 45 minutes to start in the morning?

You can create a character on a 'Full' server.Animalor wrote:I noticed on EQ2's char select screen that there was one server that had :FULL next to it. Does that mean that noone can make a new character there ever again?
That would be pretty shitty service if it were.
The 'Full' message there is to discourage new players from playing on a high population server.
Login queues were a major issue for many of servers for the first few months of release. On some servers, there would be 3+ hour waits just to log in.PS. I've never even heard of a login que in WoW. Was that a Beta thing or something?
But I guess if it only affected a minority (oh lets say around 49%) of WoW players it wasn't a very big issue.... my mistake.

As oppossed to 100% of EQ2 players that just paid 50$ for an asstastic game? I like my odds better.

Unfortunatley, I did. I have a copy I cannot give away. I tried to pawn my copy, which was given to me from a friend that wasted his money on it, onto my brother, but he just laughed and said he also had a copy he was trying to get rid of.Coming from someone who has never played EQ2, that's pretty hillarious. I forsee EQ2 being in the bargin bin within 6 months or less. Sony has already attempted the new and improved station pass trying to rally some numbers to no avail...

LOL, you're so full of shit. I bet you couldn't even explain the first few basic quests you need to do in EQ2. It's funny that some people have to stoop to lying that they played EQ2 in order to give their opinions a feeble attempt at credibility.Fairweather Pure wrote:Unfortunatley, I did. I know you're desparately hoping and praying for EQ2 to fail...you're blind hate towards anything SOE is embarrasingly obvious.... but to be honest, neither EQ2 or WoW are going to be in the 'bargain bin' any time soon. Both games have a solid, and steadily increasing subscription base.

Well Miir, I will confess that part of my reason for not trying EQ2 is because I do have a certain resentment level towards SOE for how they handled some issues in EQ. I also have friends who beta tested both EQ2 and WoW and their opinions and recommendations led me to try WoW when it came out. That ultimately carries the most wieght with me: I have heard more mixed reviews of EQ2 than WoW (which have been mostly positive).
I don't see WoW as Pixel Perfection but I see a marked improvement on some of the issues I did have with EQ. Whether Blizzard is an inept as SOE at keeping their word on fixes and debugs remains to be seen. Whether Blizzard falls into SOE's trap of releasing unfinished (and for the most part pretty shitty) expansions also remains to be seen.
As for you, Miir, I won't say I always agreed with you in the CE forum, but I could respect what you said. With your trolling my opinion of you is getting to the point where I am viewing you as another Cartalas, Searyx, *insert meaningless spam artists name* and getting damned close to the STFU list.

I played both and honestly it all boils down to solo vs group play. I have limited time to play and when I do play I like to see progress. In eq2 you have to group to do things and progression is slow. In WoW you can play to 60 solo and progress at a very nice pace.
Both games are really great. EQ2 has way better graphics, but you have to enjoy standing around LFG for long periods of time and needing other players to help you fulfill your questing needs. In WoW, you don't have to. You can level all day long and solo most quests, besides elites, which you can solo and level or two afterwards.
Basically, you dig logging in and going lfg, EQ2 is da bomb! If you like to log in and play right away without the dozens of timesinks, then WoW is da shiznit!

I believe "ran like shit on my top end system" is a complaint from anyone who owns a top end system and has played EQ2. It's certianly not limited to people who simply dislike the game. It's quite a bit different if you're in a good guild Mid.
When I log on the EQ now, I usually check the broker then head out to work on some quests (solo) until I get a tell or someone in guild chat asking for help with something.
I don't think I've turned on /lfg or shouted for a group in weeks.
But you're correct in the observation that WoW is far more 'solo friendly'. The thing is that for someone like me, I don't really care about solo ability in a MMOG. If I want to solo, I'll fire up KOTOR2...
With such an emphasis on solo play, I'm curious how WoW is going to foster or maintainan any semblance of a server community.

Good question. I know for me once I reach 60 I have a guild I can raid with, but for those who aren't or won't be in an organized guild, I'm not sure. I'd imagine they will come up with something.

This was the same bullshit that SOE said when SWG came out. I had a top of the line system at the time. P4-3.06, with whatever Nvidia card was the best at that time. No matter what I or (judging by the SWG forums) anyone else did, the maximum frame rate we could see was 30-35FPS.Fairweather Pure wrote:I believe "ran like shit on my top end system" is a complaint from anyone who owns a top end system and has played EQ2. SOE claims to make engines for tomorrow's hardware today. I personally think that from a business perspective, if they're going to choose to do that, they'd be better served building that shit into the engine and then unlocking it in future releases and expansions when there is hardware out that can run everything at max detail.
If I've invested in the best technology available for my home system (which I can no longer afford now that Nvidia has released their ALX systems which are ~$7k) it's my expectation that I should be able to go out, purchase a game, and just click the 'ultra-extreme-max-graphics' button which automatically sets everything to max, and then go off and play a visually stunning game with good frame rates. Maybe that expectation is unfair, but that's my opinion.

Well on my 2.4 GHz Celeron with 1 gig of ram, EQ2 runs awesome on my system at medium settings. I even crack the particle effects up a few notches and I have zero visual lag on 20 person raids.Fairweather Pure wrote:I believe "ran like shit on my top end system" is a complaint from anyone who owns a top end system and has played EQ2. The people you are parroting about EQ2 running like shit are the ones that have decent systems but have all the visual settings set to EXTREME.
Hell, it even says in game that they don't recommend having your visual settings that high as there are no computers currently availble that will run the game at acceptable performance with all the settings maxed.
That's like saying the new Ferrari totally sucks because it has a top speed of 220 mph but there are no roads where you can drive that speed. The EQ2 graphics engine has built in growth potential. When computers get faster and more powerful, EQ2 will scale up. I don't see how that can be viewed as a bad thing.
Regardless. I have yet to see you post any valid criticisms of EQ2, so I can file you with the rest of the WoW fanboy trolls.

I only played to level 20 in Eq2. However, I did not like having to be lfg all the time to do the quests i would get decent exp for. I keep hearing from the what.. 2 of you that defend eq2 (kilmoll and mirr) that everyone is wrong about this, and even if you have better luck with it at higher levels in a guild, I don't care, as I don't want slow progression to high levels, then for it to be easier. I can log on WoW and start to solo quest immediately, or if I want I can catch up with seeber or a few other guildies around my level and do the same thing and not have to worry about getting a full 5 person group, I like this very much.
That leads me to another major problem I had with eq2, I did not like how slow leveling was compared to WoW. I do not need slow leveling to form a learning curve on how to play a mmorpg, I did that for 5 years in eq. I want to be to the high end to do what is fun in the game for me, as fast as humanly possible.
Now I will say I think there are a lot more people in WoW than in eq2 that need this learning curve because they know jack shit about the genre of game, but that could also be because WoW has probably by now neared 3 times the player base that eq2 has.
I am in no waying trying to rouse you up and say "eq2 fucking sucks" I just think myself, and many others have very valid reasons for preffering WoW over eq2.

I find that a lot of players seem to think the 1-XX levels are simply there for the purpose of 'leveling up' and that they get to the 'good stuff' when they are max level. While that was true in EQ (and possibly in WoW), it's certainly not the case in EQ2.That leads me to another major problem I had with eq2, I did not like how slow leveling was compared to WoW. I've actually had my combat XP turned off for close to a week and a half simply because there is so much content at my level that I don't want to outlevel. There are epic/raid encounters that we can do every day.
There (currently) is no more or less content in EQ2 at level 35, 40 or 50. By racing to max level, you're only doing yourself a disservice and missing out on a whole lot of fun content.

IF you enjoy that sort of thing...
I could care less if there was enough content that it could take 7 years to get to max level and see everything..
I would still want max level as soon as possible... and it would be the games fault to lock me out of content if i outlevelled it. That's another entirely fun aspect to me..

So if EQ2 is a game that doesn't encourage or reward powerleveling or grinding, does that make it a bad game?
Perhaps it makes it a poor choice for someone like yourself, but for others who prefer a game less focused on leveling/grinding it's a great choice.
I have a few former guildmates who powergrinded to 50 in EQ2. After a few weeks of being level 50 and sitting around bored the handful of other level 50s, they made alts are are having loads more fun leveling up at a slow pace and chacking out all the content they missed out on the first time around.
My primary goal in a MMOG is to have fun.
If your primary goal in a MMOG is to get to max level, then EQ2 is probably not the best game for you.

I actually played EQ2 (three toons..lvl 36, 22 and 15) and enjoyed it somewhat. The graphics were very nice..but the game mechanics were not something I personally enjoyed.
I switched to WoW from EQ1 when my guild decided to leave EQ1. I NEVER wanted to try WoW...mostly based on the fact that I was comfortable in SOE's world and the transition to EQ2 was easy because of that comfort level.
I really enjoy WoW a lot...but I am only level 34. The graphics, while not the same as EQ2..are very nice. EQ2 graphics have a softer more flowing feel...WoW has a more comic/drawn look. I thought I would hate WoW graphics...but there are just so many details that I am enjoying very much. So whether you enjoy the graphics in EQ2 or WoW is strictly a matter of personal taste...very subjective to say the least.
I personally hate LFG. When I left EQ a few months ago I was level 70...LFG all the damn time. Nothing like a big waste of an entire evening just having your LFG tag on and trying to find someplace you could do something on your own.
The other thing I hate is grinding....grinding for anything. I like exploring, questing, and doing things with my friends in game...in the end, EQ1 was all about the grinding for AA...no thanks.
My greatest concern is WoW's ability to provide new content for the player base. With WoW only out for a few months and level 60's complaining there is nothing for them to do...and some people quitting WoW or waiting for the next big thing....that concerns me. I am loving WoW at the moment...and I know the newness will wear off...but I do not want to wind up bored in WoW after 6 months. After all, it took EQ many years before I finally had enough of the same ol' thing.

This is where Blizzard's track record on patches for other games could cause them trouble. They have a lot of good ideas, and they make sure they have them right before they release them. While that's good, they stand to lose customers in a pay-to-play game like WoW by delaying. It is basically a catch-22 in that they could release more smaller patches which could cause more programming errors/problems down the road too.

In EQ2? Surely that's not possible. I have it on good authority from my friend Miir that:miir wrote:After a few weeks of being level 50 and sitting around bored...
Even though, just yesterday he said:miir wrote:There (currently) is no more or less content in EQ2 at level 35, 40 or 50.
Is there something wrong with wanting to install a game and have fun right away?miir wrote:...you barely got into the meat of the game at 29...
...Once you start in the higher level zones and epic (raid) content, you get real feel for the game. EQ2 is a lot more fun over level 35...
