The Baby Name Wizard

Post by Brotha »

Just something I stumbled across earlier. Basically has the top 1000 baby names in the US over the last 100 years and chronicles their changing popularity. Click on a name, or just type one in at the top.

Brett (my name) has been declining! Hmmm Hillary had a sharp decline over the 90's, I wonder why...

Crap.

When I was named, less than 500 babies per million had my same name... now it's over 4-5000 per million. Copycats! It was practically non existant before the 40's.

Interestingly, Winnie was pretty popular around 1900 and then dropped off the charts by 1950. Winnie should be your next kid's name! It's rare and cool!

That's a cool live name sampler thingy.

*Cassandra* peaked in between the 70's-90's and started to take a massive decline.

Mine has been no lower than 4th overall for the last 25 years. Hooray for conformity! :!:

edit: This data is sourced from public Social Security Admin data, which you can see here. You can see the top 10 or 100 (or whatever) name for a given year here.

Wow, Andrew is rank 5. Seems about right. I have 4 friends also named Andrew from where I grew up. That's cool tho, one the other names I almost got was Garth...Wayne's world is the first thing that comes to mind.

Check out 'Moe' sometime. Poor poor Moe. Never really gained momentum.

Brandon was an extremely unique name in the 70's and 80's. However, it's off the fucking charts now. I work in a hospital and see it all the time for kids. I still rarely ever meet another Brandon my age or older so I guess I've still got that going for me :P
