Caving in..
Caving in..
I was done with MMORPGs, but then I started messing around on Thottbot.com and next thing I know I'm already planning a character or two and lusting for WoW. My friends are all on a PvP server so I will be playing there. So now I decided that I'm pretty damned sure I want to play undead. But then there was the class issue so I did some research and ended up deciding on an affliction/demonology warlock, since one of my friends will start a shadow priest to duo with me once I start the game. The only thing I was questioning was the plausability of playing a shaman of some race since I hear they are pretty ridiculous right now. But I'm shying away from that since there are no undead shamans, necros were just plain badass soloers in EQ (i generally solo for exp), and i'm afraid of starting a shaman and getting into it just as blizzard whacks the class with a nerf bat a few times (if they indeed are as overpowered as people say). Are there any thoughts/suggestions on this line of thought? Or even any general pointers that are helpful for a new player? Thanks much.
We need druids and priests! So play one of those pls.
Hehe, j/k. I spose you can play whatever class you feel like. Cept a rogue, we have so many rogues already. By the way, who was it that's starting the priest alt? I know I've answered questions about priests from more than one guildie who's starting one as an alt.
P.S. When's Wambus gunna cave?

Main is a shaman and I have soloed almost the whole way, but I've played almost ever other class at least somewhat. I agree that whatever you choose will be able to solo so pick which want you want. Shamans are cool because you can melee, dd, dot etc... you get ghost wolf and can heal well enough to be a group healer... pretty nice class.
I would play 2 or 3 classes up to 8 or 10 just to get a feel for them, that should only take a couple of hours each and will give you a better idea.

Thanks guys, and it's Gaulrung who will probably be starting an undead shadow priest to duo with. Though from the looks of the guild stats page he needs to play his main a bit more too...I'll probably be starting some time within the week, I just need to get out and pick up the software, grab the old computer from wambus's house, and take it all over to Mortivore's island...
Well, I'm in. I made my undead warlock a few days ago and have only played about 5 hours or so, but he's up to lvl 11 and I'm enjoying the game far too much. I'm already planning on going full demonology tree with secondary affliction. Some of my friends power-quested me through some slaughter quests so I'm a bit underpowered for my current active quests. But I'll just have to revert to EQ mode and grind exp in some camp for a while to even things out.

Yep, it does not take long for the entire game experience to grab ahold of you. Don't worry about being underpowered at the present--it is amazing how easy it is to get a feel for what you can handle solo and where you should concentrate to balance out.
As far as grinding, that is easy. Pick a place that you can accomplish multiple quests in or a place where you can farm trade components/mine/etc. I recently completed the elemental leatherworking quest and spent a ton of time in tanaris and searing gorge. Although the droprates sucked ass, the mob levels were between 44-49 in the various areas and I went from 44-47 over the weekend.
Such an incredibly balanced and fun game--and one that can run on my piece of shit PC.
