Hate-based initiatives target Canada

Post by Niffoni »

I guess the eye of the dark lord was going to notice us sooner or later =p

Though I can understand them being afraid. Equality laws in a North-American country might send deadly waves of democracy through the region.

http://www.canada.com/national/national ... d49581a18b
OTTAWA - Powerful U.S. religious groups are sending money and support to allies in Canada to fight same-sex marriage.

Patrick Korten, vice-president of communications for the Knights of Columbus head office in New Haven, Conn., said no limit has been set on the help his organization is prepared to offer.

"Whatever it takes," he said. "The family is too important."

Mr. Korten said the U.S. headquarters of the Catholic men's group paid $80,782 to print two million postcards being distributed in Catholic churches across Canada.

...

Last spring, Focus on the Family Canada ran an ad campaign in newspapers praising the virtues of traditional marriage between a man and a woman. Derek Rogusky, vice-president of family policy for Focus on the Family Canada, said the group spent $800,000 on advertising last year -- well within the $1-million he said the group is allowed to spend on political activities and keep its charitable status.

Canadian registered charities can spend no more than 10% of their budgets on political activity, but the only time interest groups are restricted in what they can spend on lobbying is during elections and referendums.

Focus on the Family Canada is about to launch a new ad campaign but Mr. Rogusky said this one will likely cost less.

Focus on the Family Canada has also put a Marriage Action Kit on its Web site -- a sophisticated step-by-step guide to lobbying -- from form letters for MPs and letters to the editor to advice on how to present the case. It has also sent a letter out to the 100,000 Canadian households on its mailing list.

Altogether, Focus on the Family U.S. has channelled $1.6-million in services to its Canadian affiliate between 2000 and 2003, the latest year for which financial reports are available.
Great. First Michael Moore tries to tell me how to vote in my own country, then psychotic, homophobic psudo-christians will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of political pressue, maybe more, to make sure we "make the right choice".

Hmm... wonder where all that money came from...?

Personally I think it's great. The more money they spend in Canada the less bullshit propaganda they can afford to sponsor here in the U.S.

Fortunately they won't get results as good as what they've come to expect south of the border.

Where do you think that ad money is going? I'd love to get that commission check~

Even if I did have to live in Canada and give 50% to the govt off the top =p

Sorry guys, but he's not that far off. With Federal and Provincial income taxes, GST, PST (for you poor fuckers who have it) and various other user fees and hidden taxes, over 50 cents of every dollar a Canadian who earns $40K + goes to some form of tax. Even here in Alberta where we have rejected PST and our provincial income tax is almost negligible, our "tax free day" is in late July. By the same standard I am willing to bet Rekaar isn't *that* much better off (as he seems to believe), especially when you take into account some of the services that are publicly funded in Canada vs private in the US (i.e. health care).

Really? I dont lose more than 20% or so on every check to pay for health, EI and other little things. Even the GST/PST work out to be 15% on every item I buy. Gas is a different story but still.

It might be 50% if you don't use any services, but if you use anything, health care for example (and everyone uses it at one point in time), its more like 20-30% of your hard earned dollar.

Ok, you win, I get where you are going at, hidden fees happen everywhere, even the US so technically, everyone loses 50%. The difference is we just see it on paper.

In the context of what he said, I pay nowhere near 50% taxes... 'off the top'.

the saddest part of the 50 cents per dollar....is that they are CANADIAN dollars.

so its more like for every 2 quarters you make, you pay a quarter.

see that joke means your currency sucks, which means you are a pecker wood.

get it?!!

i thought so.
