American Dad

Post by Keverian FireCry »

Watched the premier of this last night after the superbowl and Simpsons. It's from the creators of Family Guy, and I found it to be pretty dang funny. It's about a CIA agent dad who thinks terrorists are going to attack any time and is always using his CIA tactics to help his family through the littleist things, like rigging the high school election so his nerdy son can win, or kidnapping Hillary Duff(she escapes, only to get blown up in a a minefield in the front yard :twisted: ) so his son will have a date.

Other family members include a goldfish who has the brain of a German Long Jump Skiier(the CIA switched his mind with a goldfish so he wouldn't win the olympic gold). An alien who is stuck in the house all the time because he can't let anyone see him and does interesting favors for the kids if they will go buy him things at the store. A liberal daughter whom the dad treats like shit because he's incredibly conservative, and his wife who seems like a ditzy blonde homemaker with not a whole lot to say.

If you are fan of Family Guy, I'm sure you'd love this too, so here's the official site with some clips and more information.

I love Family Guy, and in all honesty, the American Dad could just as easily be the Family Guy's next door neighbor. I was half expecting Brian to show up as the he brought in mid-episode.

I thought it was funny, but not as good as FG.

Brian = Roger (alien)
Stewie = Klaus (Goldfish)

I think it's a great show, but the only problem is that it is Family Guy with different characters. I noticed the jokes on last night's "preview" could have easily been used on Family Guy (for example, God and Bush's conversation). One of the reasons Family Guy is so funny is because they go out on a tangent, and make hilarious jokes that have NOTHING to do with the plot. I love it, but I don't know come May if I would be able to stand two Family Guy-esque shows in one week. If you recall, they started creating American Dad after Family Guy was cancelled, and *at the time* had no possibility of coming back.

Other than that, great show, but the comedy is too close to Family Guy's.

Edit: As a side note, I have a feeling the 7 hour release of Roger's fluids will be one of the funniest aspects of the show (assuming they do great and unexpected timing with it).

Simpsons has their moments. Especially with the Cain and Abel part where Todd says something like 'If Cain and Abel were the only childrenon Earth, who did they have babies with? Their mother?"

American Dad was funny, but I can see the show getting old fast.

The Simpsons has dropped to the level where I won't watch it even if I'm watching TV and nothing else is on (which is to say it is now less funny than Blind Date). I would rather flip through channels for half an hour or do something else than suffer through the same regurgitated shit that I've been forced to listen to for like fifteen years now.

Hey guys guess what when Homer's angry he strangles Bart and says "why you little!"

I agree. It's Family Guy 2.0. But it's still funny. :) It also seems like it focuses more on politics and current events than Family Guy...not that Family Guy didn't already have plenty to say about politics and current events.

It seems odd that they made this show AND Family Guy is coming back...I thought this show was the replacement for Family Guy, but it's in addition to it. Really tho it is like having more episodes of Family Guy to watch and I don't mind that at all. The writers of these two shows are fucking hilarious.

Sadly, I agree. I realized I hadn't been watching it as obsessively as I used to over the last few years, and recently I've been watching it to wait for something funny and I've given up. The show was great and deserves respect, but it should have quit while it was ahead. It's just annoying, cheesy and stupid now...

it used to be my favorite show several years ago but i agree now...it holds nothing compared to south park or family guy

i wasnt paying attention to the "premier" and turned this show on later thinking it was a "flashback" or something of one of the family guy people...its the same exact show with different characters, it CAN get old real fast but i guess wel just have to see,
stewie is better then any of those characters

Family Guy is amazing, much better than current Simpsons, but the Simpsons is still the Simpsons (i.e the win).

Simpsons started to die out when they made episodes concentrating on Lisa. That little bitch is annoying, boring, and retarded all at the same time.

Just think how rich the family would be if they took all the money offers over the years that Lisa refused out of guilt. No one sensible would actually refuse such opportunities.

Uh.. yeah I just wanted to get that off my chest.

Damn, thats one big Family Guy ripoff. Its bad when the show dont even get to finish the first scene after the intro, before you know where they ripped it off from.
