GI Joe Held Hostage

Post by Morgrym »

I heard about this on the radio this morning. I could not find anything on cnn.com or usatoday.com. Checked snopes and this is what they have to say on the issue. They have it listed as undetermined. Pretty funny if it's true. I know for a fact that GI Joe will never, ever talk. Not even after hung and shot at with bb's.

On 1 February 2005, the Associated Press reported that Iraqi militants had claimed in a statement posted on a web site that they had taken an American soldier hostage and were threatening to behead him in 72 hours if the U.S. did not agree to release Iraqi prisoners:
The posting, on a Web site that frequently carried militants' statements, included a photo of what that statement said was an American soldier, wearing desert fatigues and seated on a concrete floor with his hands tied behind his back. The figure in the photo appeared stiff and expressionless, and the photo's authenticity could not be confirmed.

This image of what appears to be a captured US soldier was posted on an Iraqi militant website, Tuesday Feb. 1, 2005. According to the website, the militants threatened to behead the hostage in 72 hours unless the Americans release Iraqi prisoners. The claim could not be verified.

This has been getting a little airtime on CNN for the last few days. Many a chuckle from the empty suits.. Maybe it's just because I never saw the picture out of context, but it's kinda hard to believe anyone thought this was real. Just looking at the wall behind him makes it pretty clear that something's fishy with the scale. I guess you can never be too careful, though.

Barbie pleads for return of soldier taken Hostage in Iraq

In a related story, Barbie pleads for the return of her husband taken hostage by insurgents. "I just want him back. He is a good man." Barbie said through choked back tears. "I would do anything to have him back she said later. I've got 20 cars, 40 houses, a few castles, many horses, 3 boats, a hair salon...you name it I probably have it. And I would gladly give it up for him!"

I think he's being held in the Cobra command center. I'd like to volunteer for the rescue operation.

If GI Joe needs rescuing, I say we send in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos.

It's the only way to be sure.
