DiCaprio Gets Lifetime Achievement Award

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - On the heels of an Oscar nomination, "The Aviator" star Leonardo DiCaprio (news) wrapped a high-flying week by accepting the Platinum Award from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival

The award, created to commemorate the festival's 20th anniversary, was given Sunday night in recognition of the actor's "exceptional career," festival director Roger Durling said.

Shameless pandering and insulting to the acting career in general. Lifetime achievement award for a 30 year old. Did he break some coke snorting record or something?

That's not really relevant to the topic at hand. Namely a 'Lifetime Achievement' award. Unless they are trying to say his career is over.

yes it seems very silly to give a 30 year old a lifetime achievement award... the only way to rationalize it is that a good portion of actors careers are measured in months.

He does have talent, but a Lifetime Achievement Award sounds pretty silly unless he plans on taking his own life soon.

We couldn't be that lucky.

This is an insult to everyone else considered for it, all that have received it in the past, and all that will in the future.

Well it is only from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival... Not like it's a major award.

DiCaprio says: "It's a lifetime achievement award, which is completely and utterly surreal, given I'm only 30 years old.

"But, you know, what has it been? Almost 17 years now. I've done quite a few films. But what's really exciting, for me, is that this is what I really love doing. It's what I want to do for the rest of my life."

Yeah, I actually had high hopes for him after seeing him for the first time in Gilbert Grape.

Noone else has ever recieved a 'Platinum Award' from the 'Santa Barbara International Film Festival' and nobody else will in the future. It is a 'special award in recognition of the actor's film career'.

Give it a rest... it's just a publicity thing. They 'created the award so that Scorsese could present it to DiCaprio while they were both making PR appearances at a festival.

On the International Film Festival circuit, Santa Barbara is insignificant.
