Alchemy

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I am checking stuff out and it says the smallest skill potion I can make takes a 15 skill level. How do I get the first 14 skill points if I can't make any potions?

Go to your skill set, click on the green vial.. it will bring up a menu of recipes that you already know.. you start with the basics.

and this is the optional part, but i went ahead and just slammed my head in a car door after i figured it out after spending an hour or two traveling to different cities' alchemists looking for low level recipes... so you know, its up to you if you want to do that too.

There are three recipes that you start out with when you first learn the skill, and those only require you to have a skill of 1 in alchemy to make. After that, the lowest one that you train will require a 15.

I downloaded a pair of extremely helpful PDF's about alchemy and herbalism, and I can't remember where I got them, so I put them up on my own webserver so you can check them out:

I've gotten alchemy up to 225, max expert until im able to get artisan... it's expensive buying shit from the auction house.. I was trying to flip around some superior healing potions, but if people are only willing to pay 2gold for a 5stack, i cant afford pay 4g for a stack of sungrass, 4g for a stack of khadgars, and 1g for a stack of crystal vials.

Healing potions are too common in the "droppable" world for them to be worth a lot at the AH. Rogues pickpocket healing potions all the time as well. I'm not high enough yet to pickpocket mobs with superior healing potions, but at one point I had 2 stacks of regular healing potions just from looting and pickpocketing.

I think the trick to making cash with Alchemy is to sell the potions that are used in other skills and quests. Elixir of Demonslaying is a good one, Frost Oil as well. Strong Troll's Blood Potions, Elixir's of Defense, Elixir's of Minor Agility all can sell as well.

I rarely sell potions in the AH tho, I'm more of a "keep the friends supplied" alchemist.

Yeah, except I like to keep them for myself and brother to use rather than sell them! :)

I went with alchemy mainly because I decided I wanted herbalism for thistle tea and figured it would be the easiest chioce. But now I think its the best prof anyway as far as utility.. doesnt make much money but its useful.

Actually, I do not think any of the professions make much money. Everything is getting pretty saturated. If you want to make money go gathers, like mining/skinning.

Bakara made ~80gp in just 2 days by crafting Green lenses with his Engineering skill. He was selling them for 6gp and they sell like hotcakes. Seems enchanters disenchant them into some high level enchanting component.

I am 280eng. I would make lens and desenchant them. It was good money for awhile. But like everything else, it gets saturated.
