Canada Bashing
Got linked to this...pretty funny. VV's two favorite commentators: Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson!
http://gprime.net/video.php/foxoncanada
A few quotes:
Coulter: They're lucky we allow them to exist on the same continent.
Carlson: You'd be invaded by Norway if it wasn't for the United States.
I don't think the average Canadian hates Bush, I think the average Canadian is dog sledding.
Without the US, Canada is essentially Honduras.

WAAAAAAAHH CANADA WAAAAAAH!!!
Conservatives are such whiney little bitches. They aren't happy unless they can be pissed at someone for not having the same ideologies.

Jesus, that woman is mad.
We ALLOW people to stay on the same continent as the US.
LOL; great argument for hating Canada: "They speak french".
How come i got a feeling that Ann Coulter would be honored to be the first female leader of the KKK if she had been born 50 years ago?

Besides, that wasn't even funny. Conservatives must have a really lame sense of humor. I've heard funnier Canada bashing here.
...and the intent was to whine about Canada, even if they were "trying" to make it funny.

As a Canadian I laughed at this. Its on a scale with Bill O'Reilly's rant about us last spring/summer on tha accuracy scale (i.e. way the fuck off it).
Ann Coulter, well I'm still waiting for something I can take seriously from that woman.
Tucker Carlson, with his assertions of dog-sledding, no wonder CNN cut loose his contract: even if he's trying he's just not that funny.
Carolyn Parrish, well, I am embarrassed that any Americans were exposed to that stunned cunt. To me, she epitomizes much of what was wrong under our former prime minister, that her anti-Americanism was tolerated in our government's causcus.
There were some truths in some of the BS:
- the US is Canada's largest trading partner and we are, one of, if not the largest in return.
- Canada supplies a large percentage of the energy resources consumed in the US.
- the Canadian military has steadily shrunk since the end of WW2, to its present state of disrepair, in large part because the US has acted like a shield for us.
- many younger Canadians are attracted to the lower taxes and higher incomes south of the border, particularly in areas relating to engineering and technolgy.
And yes I hate the French too.

Then yes...he is one of those people...

I made a typo and you flip, not to mention which what they speak in Quebec is looked down upon by the French themselves and they decidedly are the determining factor as to what is and is not French.Tenuvil wrote:it's PATOIS you fucking neanderthal. Therefore the people of Quebec cannot even speak their own language properly, they speak a sub dialect that is besically the linguistic equal of southern redneck english to British English.
The French suck, and even THEY look down on Quebec.

I was referring to the wider racism of arabic people that has been increasing (from this angle anyway). From the way the news is reported to typecast arab evil guys in films to the percieved oppression of the arabic world, the dismissal of palestinians.....etc...
A blanket statement that of course does not and was not meant to imply guilt upon all, just certain elements that seem to run amok.

Ann Coulter gets schooled by Canada
Normally we wouldn't allow such a large picture of Ann Coulter to appear on this website, but we wanted to afford our readers every pixel of Coulter crow. The conservative talking head was being interviewed by Bob McKeown on Fifth Estate on Canada's CBC in that low droaning voice we're huge fans of when she got her facts terribly, terribly wrong about the Vietnam war.
Coulter: "Canada used to be one of our most loyal friends and vice-versa. I mean Canada sent troops to Vietnam - was Vietnam less containable and more of a threat than Saddam Hussein?"
McKeown interrupts: "Canada didn't send troops to Vietnam."
Coulter: "I don't think that's right."
McKeown: "Canada did not send troops to Vietnam."
Coulter (looking desperate): "Indochina?"
McKeown: "Uh no. Canada ...second World War of course. Korea. Yes. Vietnam No."
Coulter: "I think you're wrong."
McKeown: "No, took a pass on Vietnam."
Coulter: "I think you're wrong."
McKeown: "No, Australia was there, not Canada."
Coulter: "I think Canada sent troops."
McKeown: "No."
Coulter: "Well. I'll get back to you on that."
McKeown tags out in script: "Coulter never got back to us -- but for the record, like Iraq, Canada sent no troops to Vietnam."
Officially, Canada didn't directly send troops, but unofficially, Canada had many troops in Vietnam:Legenae wrote:http://www.jossip.com/dailyj/2005/01/31 ... canada.php

But while Canada as a nation was not involved, Canadians themselves formed the largest foreign contingent in the U.S. military during the Vietnam era. Some estimate that their numbers far surpassed the more than 30,000 Americans draft dodgers who fled to Canada to avoid military service during the war. While exact numbers are impossible to obtain, from my work as a military historian with the Canadian War Museum, I estimate that of the many thousands who served in the U.S. Vietnam-era military, some 12,00 Canadians actually served in Vietnam itself.

Conversely, over 35,000 Americans joined the Canadian Army during World War 1 (recall that Canada was fighting the war from 1914 to 1917 before America became involved).
Again, in World War II, some 30,000 Americans joined the Canadian forces during the period 1939 to 1941 while the United States was still neutral.
