Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Post by Drinsic Darkwood »

"Badass"

If you liked Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time, you will love this game. It's got everything the first one had and much, much more. Graphics are obviously better, it's a darker-toned game (blood, hacking off body parts, splitting people apart, being chased by demonic servants of the Sands of Time, etc.), and the fighting system experienced a great overhaul.

There's over 60 different attacks/combos in this game, you can use two weapons (or use your free hand to strange/grab/throw,etc. enemies). There's varying enrivonments (not the same old, same old Arabian palace throughout the entire game), a huge variety of weapons, and the game is more difficult in comparison to the previous installment (which is a good thing). The boss fights are also, once again, much more entertaining than SoT.

There's just something about leaping over enemies, strangling them, stealing their own sword, and finally in a slow-motion camera sequence, cutting off their head Maximus-style a la Gladiator.

We sat down and played this at my house. It was extremely good with the graphics and the story line, but it was really hard. Took us 3 days straight to finish. I like the story line better in the first one, but this was entertaining :) The gore was AWESOME! I loved jumping over the guys and beheading them and watching it in slow motion. It did get redundant though having to go from the past to the present over and over. Just my 2 cents :)

From what I've seen, this game is straight hack and slash - so if you enjoyed the puzzle-jumping games from Sands of Time, be warned that it's not the same.

And the music fucking sucks - sounds like stuff Evanescence edited out. Where's the Arabian Nights theme? PFFT!

Well, I made the initial post after playing the game for maybe about two hours. Having completed it, my thoughts are a bit different.

The game is definitely less puzzles and more hack and slash. In that regard, it's more difficult, but more fun for me, personally. There are still some puzzles throughout the game, plus the travelling between past and present to reach different areas.

As for the music, well that's just individual taste. I thought the music was fine, and pretty enjoyable, with the exception of the instrumental version of Godsmack's "I Stand Alone" going on during the Dahaka chases. Otherwise I liked it. After all, uh, the game isn't set in Arabia, but rather somewhere entirely different (and fictional). Who are you to say the Empress of Time didn't listen to metal?

The Prince's character was as that comic suggests - "smoldering with generic rage." I thought the story as a whole was good - it was a great game overall, and the ending definitely leaves room for another installment.

I have been playing this, but not a whole lot, and I have not finished yet. I have found a few parts to be challenging though, am actually kind of stuck right now.

I hadn't played the first, but after this one I like the idea and might pick it up.

Oddly, I found this to be the opposite.. I didn't play all the way through yet, but got to about the 5th room or so.. it seemed like I dunno, less than a dozen monsters to kill then an hour of figuring out how to maneuver through a room to get the door open or get up on some hidden ledge. It does seem harder (wtf is w/the bitch of a fight in the very beginning?) than the first.. The graphics are nicer, the music is good but as mentioned, doesn't fit the game's theme very well.. overall so far, I like the first one better.

The game got to obnoxious towards the end so I put it on the shelf. I was close to the end of the game.. I was in a room where you have to move a few blocks and such to open a door (yeah i know, thats all the rooms in the game) and these super - mobs come out, like 4 of em, then in the next two rooms its the same thing, but with traps. I kept dying because I was trying to find an alternate to spending 30 minutes killing 4 mobs but couldnt find one so that ended it.

i got the xbox version for xmas. so far the game owns... however the music does not... except for a few occasions where it's not that bad.

all that crappy nu-metal really throws me out of the mood of the game when im in dark and eerie rooms killing off demons and sliding down curtains.

dark scary eerie soundscapes > godsmack.
