I'm all for interoperability however what happens when you get a device not made by either of these giants.

And is this alliance truly to serve the consumer's best interst or another way to limit how media can be obtained/used.

You, I, and everyone else with half a brain knows this isn't to protect the consumer's best interest.

It's to protect the business'.
