I swore I wouldn't do it...I swore I would never get hooked on another Sci Fi series again. I promised myself that I would break the addiction. I haven't watched much TV in a very long time...and what I do watch has been the cable news networks, Discovery/History channel, Iron Chef

or a special that is on now and then. Sopranos and Nip Tuck rank high up there for me...but since both are in hiatus and reruns...I am not watching much of anything.

Then last week I saw the Battlestar Galactica mini-series rerun...and I loved it. Damn them for recreating a series that I grew up with. I had my doubts...but it started off with a bang. Tonight is the series premiere on the SciFi Channel... 9 EST/8 CST...and I am going to watch it...damn them!

And I know this could be another topic for another thread..and it may have been done already...but there were so many SciFi series...what did you like? My list includes:

Star Trek - Original
Star Trek - TNG
Star Trek - DS9 (the best of the 3 imho)
Never got into ST Voyager...shame really...nor do I watch Enterprise
FarScape
First Wave - Very underrated...I loved this show...until they added Tracy Lords.
Lexx - Watched quite a bit...very odd indeed...but Xenia Seeberg had me hooked.
Earth 2 - I really liked this as well...some bad acting (gtfo Antonio Sabato Jr.)...but an interesting plot...and it had Terry O'Quinn (Lost)
V - The first mini-series owned...the series itself...not so much.
Buck Rogers - Colonel Wilma Deering in silvery skintight bodysuit...need I say more?
War of The Worlds: The Series
Never watched Babylon 5...but I hear it was a great series.

Of your list, those are the ones I consider my favorites and classics.

I'm not a Red Dwarf or Doctor Who fan (have never seen either) so can't comment on those.
I'm sure I'm missing some like the X-Files but it looks like you're focusing on the hard sci fi and not the conspiracy type stuff.

I had the hots for Wilma Deering (Erin Grey) back in the day!

ST:TOS is funny stuff...
ST:II wrath of khan is the best ST movie
ST:TNG
ST:DS9
ST:Voyager ( I like cpt. janeway, if you remember an old movie Remo Williams, thats where i knew her from )
ST:Enterprise ( eh... the intro song killed it for me )

tried to avoid star wars, after not remembering watching them as a kid, i tried to hold off till all of them were out and watch them in order.. but that didnt last.

SW:Empire Strikes Back is the ultimate movie

I would occasionally catch an episode of Babylon 5 and enjoy it... but some of the characters were just too wierd for my liking.

I have a problem with a lot of sci-fi as I see star trek being based as closely as possible to a realistic vision of the future, and when another show goes away from that, i go away from the show.

Can't say I like star tek at all, but as a kid I loved Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica. Saw the miniseries last year and loved it. I will be all over this series!!!

i 'm looking forward to it.

i thought the sci-fi movie was pretty good. i had great memories of feeding my little girl at 6in the morning letting my wife sleep, and then her falling asleep on my chest while i watch tivo'd segments of it.

i thought it certainly would be a series worthy of Sci-fi, considering some of the other stuff they run out there. (Farscape...)

i'm amazed that NBC aired it a week or so ago. For starters, i dont know if GE owns Sci-Fi also, or if it was shared production resources, but still. Anyway, that is worth more than the marketing budget of the SciFi channel all combined throughout their history!

so i got my DVR set, and i am looking forward to it.

Nope, nothing more needs to be said.

Never watched Babylon 5...but I hear it was a great series.

Bab 5 owned.

I also enjoyed most Star Trek, although the orginal series are the only ones that I have seen all of (I think). Farscape was great (although I missed most of it after the first couple seasons, hoping to get caught up with the DVDs when I have time).

At the end of first two hours of the series, I gotta say it's a winner. Wish I'd known about and seen the mini-series. Maybe they'll show it again someday... in less than 5 years from now. :/

I can't help but wonder why an established series with financial backing like Start Trek can't run out better actors than those on Enterprise - which I typically enjoy, btw.

Oh, and Boomer or whatever her name is -- she's h o t.

I missed it.

I just setup TIVO for a season pass and got an assload of batlestar galactica stuff. I think the mini series is mixed in with the regular season.

I see something from 2003 (4 hour recording block on Sunday 1/16) and then 2005 stuff. TIVO's pretty good about sorting it all out and not recording duplicate episodes.

Was the first episode called "Water" or 33;Water? Looks like the second one on 1/21 is called Bastille Day.

Was the show last night 2 hours? It appears that maybe two episodes were played back to back called 33 and Water?

I watched it, and I only liked it...but God please help it mature into a fantastic show like Farscape did....except mature a lot faster. The script (parts) is kind of bland, and the acting is hard to watch at times.

The parts of the script that are not bland would have to be the Dr. and his "in head drama"...but normal character interaction is drawn out, and completely unbelievable at times. I know the actors are not the best and brightest, I accept that, but soaps have more "believable" characters than that show. (Now that I really think about it, Boomer is the only actor I have a huge, glaring problem with in the lack-of-skills department.)

That being said, I'll keep watching it, and praying the writing and acting iron out.

I have more problems with Apollo and Starbuck in the acting-skillz dept than Boomer and I find Baltar a bit over-acty. But even that fails to ruin what has been a very good series so far.
Don't believe the "OMG EVERY EPISODE IS EXCELLENT" posters either. There are a few scattered about that are total arse

If Farscape is your measuring stick, it exceeding that in production quality alone in like 10 seconds.

I think it is pretty interesting, and more importantly still pretty entertaining.

I judge the progresssion of a popular series on a network like SciFi with Farscape. If you remember the first farscape episodes compared to the final season, you would see a great progression in writing style and skill, character development, and the actors themselves getting better.

That's why I use farscape as a measureing stick. Of course battlestar "looks" better right out the shoot, better computer graphic rendering available for the series...and hell, I'm just hoping it gets better story and acting wise...it should...

As it stands right now, it just didn't "grab me" the way farscape did.

Finally watched the first 2 episodes... aside from the camera work in some spots, it is quite well done, like the miniseries. And I agree with Masteen.

I'm enjoying the series so far. Watching "33" made me really tired though.

I'm OK with Baltar but don't like the idea of Cylons being so perfect as to avoid detection completely.

Back to the topic though. BTEFnet and bi-torrent don't seem to have any seeding for the new series aside from the first 2 episodes. Does anyone have any decent links that do seed them?

I've been downloading the episodes off DC++. It can be tricky at times but I am only missing two at this point.

The acting in the series is much better than what was in the Mini-series. It kind of irks me that no one notices what a crazy loon Baltar is.

i thought the fact that Starbuck could fly that ceylon ship was pretty far fetched, let alone the fact that her jacket could plug up hole in the side of the ship.

also, why wouldnt the biological component of the ship also be built into a pressure suit in the event that the hull was pierced which would kill it.

and of course why didnt its hull being pierced kill it?

anyway, i like the show, i'm a geek.
