Gah, this sucks

Post by Adelrune Argenti »

So finally my Chargers have made it to the playoffs. I tried to get tickets but they were sold out. Heading to my trusty Ebay, I found some tickets on Monday for a really good price, like just at the normal price. I won the auction, made payment and anxiously awaited my tickets.

UPS guy shows up this morning. I quickly rip open the envelope and find another envelope inside with 2 little stickers on the outside; one of a Chargers helmet, the other a Jets helmet. The guy I bought them from does a bunch of ticket sales on Ebay so I guess this is how he keeps track of the tickets. I proceed to open that envelop and find inside 2 tickets. However, not the tickets I wanted. Instead, I am staring at 2 tickets for this weekends Colts/Broncos game in Indianapolis, a city which I am sure is nice and a venue that would be cool. Alas, I live in San Diego and no where near that flyover state Indiana.

So I start to panic. I send emails to the seller. I get his phone number from Ebay and contact him that way leaving a quite frantic message wanting to know where my tickets are. After about an hour of waiting, he calls me back. We go through the whole situation and he replies with "Crap, I mixed them up with some other guy." So of course my question becomes "Well, how are YOU going to fix this? I need my tickets."

So, right now I am sitting here waiting for him to call me back again after he gets a hold of 1 or 2 buyers for the Colts tickets to see which of them have my tickets. Once we figure that out, I am supposed to send my tickets directly to the Colts guy and he is sending me my Charger tickets. All of this is being paid for by the original seller.

Somehow, I have the feeling I am going to be screwed in this and my tickets are not going to get here in time. I can get the money back but it doesn't help when all you want to do is see the FUCKING GAME IN PERSON!!!!

So, do you think I am screwed out of tickets?

I hope you get the tickets in time! I think the Chargers will beat the Jets and also be competitive in the second round of the playoffs.

Well, I got an update. My tickets are in the lovely city of Plainview, Indiana. The lady that got them doesn't want to go to a Chargers game so she is sending them to me tomorrow morning for delivery on Friday. I just sent her tickets out for delivery tomorrow. Here is hoping for the decency of sports fans everywhere.

After you get your tickets, then do the Ebay feedback thing calling him a scalper, crook, etc. That'll teach him to avoid and future "oops, dude" moments.

If the seller is paying for the shipping of these ticket swaps, insist that some form of overnight shipping take place? (I think an envelope overnight from USPS is about $15).

With time senstitve and expensive things like playoff tickets there's no room for error. Besides if he had tix for games all over the country it seems he's doing this professionally and as such needs to exercise a bit more care.

So complaining, which could end up with him shutting down, is good how? Mistakes happen. If he wouldnt refund the tickets after the game passed, then you would have a case, but this guy seems to be trying.

If anything I would think that, assuming all turns out well in the end, the feedback should be good. Considering he is taking care of getting the error fixed and paying for it all he is doing well. Mistakes happen, it is the customer service on the back end that makes for good business imo.

Yea I agree. Mistakes happen and if hes doing everything he can to fix it including paying for the shipping hes a great seller. If he told you tough shit live with it then I can see bad feedback. But if you get the tickets on time and dont pay extra, then he still has done what he promised.

speaking of things that suck....

me and my friend paul decided to get a christmas present for the girl we get pot from... a 20 year old hottie... she had mentioned one time when we were hanging out at her apartment that she was looking for this old 60's-70's elvis lamp... so i found it on ebay, lost the first auction, and someone emailed me that they were putting one up, so i hit 'buy it now'....

the package arrives... we unwrap it, and elvis is in 6 pieces :( being naive about the UPS insurance claims process, we called the shipper and she started the claim, UPS took the package to 'inspect' it... and then i find out the procedure... it's all between UPS and the shipper, they shipped the fucking lamp back to her UPS store, and they're going to send her the money, and probably not give her the lamp back. If i had known this shit I would've sacrificed the insurance $$ because I wanted to repair it myself.

what can brown do for me? ruin christmas? im not looking forward to telling her what happened after we hyped it up all this time.

I worked at ups for a holiday stent in college. I wouldn't ship anything slighlty breakable via ups ground. I worked at unloading the trucks that would come in over night and early in the morning. We would manhandle everything, and would walk on top of boxes.

This is a portion of a post from another forum I read. The poster was admittedly drunk at the time of posting and claiming to have worked at UPS:
UPS!!
Man i love that place. Teamster love! Power to the dicksuckers. And loots for all.

You see at the us post office if you open a letter is a federal office, say hello to the fbi.

Do it at ups, you just found your self $700. Girls at hooters where happy that night. and the girls at candys purple poll woah now.. err nm this a kids bord to.
Normal day of ups is punching in your code to show your there on time. The guy who shows up first punchs ever one in. No ones ever late! Then we go up to our posts at the end of a belt feed slid. What ever boxs dont get eaten in the miles of belts that powers ups get fling down a slid to crash into a 2inch high bar at the end. if your lucky that stops the box. if your not little jhony sent his brother a bolling ball. Hope your fast on your feet. So you grab a box and flip it to its lable side. read the adress and set in down in a GIANT MOVING BOXLINE OF DEATH. Death to boxs no people, all tho that one time was close. Hell i watched that thing grind up a 30inch tv.

really shold have put that in there better.

Any way. You need to work fast becaus the boxs don't stop. Well the boxs will stop but the mechines wont. Ever see a package of expload just becaus? Wee its snowing.

I have shipped two bowling balls with UPS. All I did was use some bubble wrap and write "Fragile Handle With Care" all over the box. The balls did not crack.

Yeah, I was under the impression that it is typical practice for bowling balls to be hurled at speeds crashing into 10 other objects on a greased surface.

My primary hookup was part of my circle of friends for many years. In truth he only dealt with friends and turned away many people he didn't know.

Another gal we worked with was not a friend per se, but was always inviting and frequently asked us to hang with her. One time we repaid a "front" on time by walking the 5 miles or so to her house through a nor'easter snowstorm. She never forgot that and always treated us very well.

It pays great dividends to treat your business allies well.

Yeah, I was there. It was a heartbreaker. Fucking Martyball lives again. He had to pull the same old crap out for the playoffs. Earth to Marty, there is a reason you are 5-12 in the playoffs.

Bummer that they lost. One bad field goal kick did them in. It was still an amazing year for the Chargers. They'll only get better next year. They're primed with cap space, a great RB and tight end. Franchise Brees for next year and it's off to the races again.

What is fucking sad is that these tickets came from a SCALPER and you people comiserate with him, FUCK YOU AND YOUR SCALPED TICKETS!

Seriously, letting them buy lots of tickets to then jack up the price is WHY things sell out like they do, leave them mother fucking scalpers holding onto 250 tickets at 50 bucks a pop a few times and they will give that up.

So, you are against the free market system? This guy has season tickets to several teams. He then resells his tickets. He has a supply. Not always is there a demand. He takes a risk when he has more time to find bargains. I, on the other hand, had more money available than time to find tickets. Each person comes away happy.

It is capitalism. It works. Move on.

Supporting scalpers does sound a lot better than being one of those sad wastes of human life that spend a week camped out in front of a ticket booth for Star Wars tickets...

No this is theft, it intentionally prices up the cost of the tickets, you can argue supply and demand, and this is true when one Avergae Joe has an extra ticket to a Knicks game, but when they sell out 30 seconds after they go on sale because the entire hall, stadium, arena is purchased in blocks of 100-500 tickets then the system is being artificially manipulated.

What part of the season ticket thing didn't you understand? The guy I bought them from has 4 season tickets to the Chargers. He also has 4 season tickets to the Colts and some other teams. He doesn't have a block of tickets he bought just for the playoffs.

Season ticket holders get playoff tickets because of their loyalty. Those tickets are usually in their exact same seats they have for the whole season. So, this guy got his 4 playoff tickets, not 100 etc, because he was a season ticket holder. He did what he does with all of his season tickets; he sells them to anyone who wishes to buy them.

Also:
1. Is Ticket Scalping Legal In California
As of 2/15/2004, the state of California does not regulate the resale of event tickets.

Ticket scalping has not been deemed illegal in the state of California and no laws have been set in place to regulate the resale of event tickets.

Sellers can ask what ever price they want when reselling an event ticket and buyers are free to pay as much as they want to obtain the ticket.

As far as where you can legally sell tickets near a venue; that all depends on the city and or venue. Some venues designate an area for ticket resellers to sell from onsite, others do not permit the resale of tickets onsite and some cities also apply restrictions based on safety issues and vendor permits.

Check with city officials or the event venue directly for more information regarding the resale of tickets at or near the venue.
