Axis & Allies

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I just bought the Axis & Allies RTS. It is taking a bit to get used to considering I am a diehard board game player. I played the Hasbro version but the AI is pretty pathetic. This game however gives you the chance to actually fight for your territories. I haven't explored all the options yet but it seems pretty cool. It reminds me a lot of Starcraft in a way. The game does seem kind of slow to me but that is fine because of the long term playability. Kind of like Rome:Total War. I can't really see playing this multiplayer unless they have a lot of time to put into it. Kind of like playing CIVIII multiplayer in turn based mode.

So far I have noticed that a war is going to take a long long long time if you do RTS with every battle. If you are good at RTS you can defend places pretty damn well with a minimum of resources but it takes time to do that.

I got this about a month ago and got bored of it. It is a real pain in the butt because the computer players constantly out produce you and there are tight limits on the number of buildings and units you can have.

I normally like to play a defensive type with bunkers and such but those buildings are fairly useless in this game. THis game requires you to max out your units, throw the whole shebang at the enemy in the hopes to take out one or two buildings and then spend an hour rebuilding your army. Gets old really quick.

I have never been more disappointed in a game in my life. The only similarity to Axis & Allies is the name and some of the map features. Oh, and of course the countries involved.

Basically the game is exactly like what Deward said. You can own almost the entire map but you can't out produce the computer. Then the computer will come back to win.

You can't have more than one attack that may involve a possible RTS battle. So you can only have one battle a turn. You can take as many unoccupied territories you want but it doesn't seem like that gets you much.

If you are the allies you will lose very fast unless Great Britain gets reinforced right away.

The most painful disappointment is that there are NO NAVIES! How the hell can you have a war game based on WWII without having Navies?

There are lot more things I really dispise about this game but not worth listing here. Don't buy it! This is the most pathetic game I have played in a long while. I am verry pissed at myself for spending the money I did on this game without having read up on it first. I hope I don't fuck up like this again.

How can you possibly play as the U.S. without a navy?

Man I used to love this game.
