Osama Bin Laden's body guard freed?

Post by Thess »

http://www.dawn.com/2004/11/19/int7.htm

BERLIN, Nov 18: Germany has quietly freed from jail an ex-bodyguard of Osama bin Laden who testified against fellow militants, and is talking to Washington about removing him from a UN terror watchlist, sources close to the case say.

Shadi Abdalla was released earlier this month, his lawyer confirmed, after serving just under a year of a 4-year sentence for planning attacks on Jewish targets in Germany. His short jail term was a reward for turning informant and testifying against others still on trial for the plot, which was allegedly driven by Al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al Zarqawi.

The problem for German authorities is that Abdalla, who fears for his life, remains on a United Nations terror sanctions list. Any financial support as part of a witness protection programme would technically violate international law.

The German foreign ministry had no comment on a report in Der Spiegel magazine's online edition that Washington wanted to question Abdalla before agreeing to back his removal from the list.

A diplomatic source said a Berlin counter-terrorism official was in Washington this week to discuss Abdalla. "There are talks going on," the diplomat said. A State Department spokeswoman said Washington did not comment on ongoing cases.

'COLLISION OF DUTIES': The Jordanian's lawyer, Ruediger Deckers, said it was fair to assume Abdalla was living under a new identity. He was satisfied Germany was doing all it could to protect him. But he said there was a "collision of duties" between the state's obligations towards Abdalla and the UN sanction rules.

Abdalla, 28, is listed on a UN sanctions website among "individuals belonging to or associated with" Al Qaeda.

The tall Jordanian, who had lived in Germany since the mid-1990s, said he travelled to Afghanistan and briefly became Osama's bodyguard after meeting a relative of the Al Qaeda leader during a trip to Saudi Arabia. He returned to Germany after leaving Afghanistan in May 2001.

Security analysts say that if Washington refuses to back the delisting, Germany and other states may be loath in future to suggest names for terror sanctions lists. They also say that a failure to delist individuals who have served their time in prison or cooperated with authorities could discourage other militants from becoming informants.

ROLES REVERSED: The issue of US access to Abdalla has ironic echoes of a previous tense chapter between Berlin and Washington.

German authorities tried long and in vain to persuade the United States to let them question Ramzi bin al-Shaibah, a captured Al Qaeda leader, in order to gather evidence against two Moroccans accused of helping plot the 9/11 attacks.

Washington refused on security grounds, frustrating German officials and prosecutors. One of the men was acquitted and the other is currently on trial for the second time.

Abdalla testified at both trials, at one point telling how Osama boasted, 4 months before the 9/11 attacks in 2001, of planning to kill thousands of people in the United States.-Reuters
And taken off our terror watch list?

If they take him off the UN's terror watch list that doesnt mean we have to take him off ours, right? I could be wrong about that, but it seems they just want him off the UN watch list, any country that was against that could just leave him on their own watch list couldnt they?

We rarely listen to the UN anyway, so why would we on something like this? lol

Fash that is a terrible statement, please do not EVER compare Germany to Fance. They may or may not have made a mistake in not supporting Bush's Holy War but that in NO way puts them in the same league as France... :)

You do know what the streets in France are lined with trees right? So that German soldiers can walk in the shade

judgemental much? I mixed up a fucking word. Go Fuck Yourself.

My first post does indeed say a lot.. and heres what it says bitch i'll break it right down for you. My country likes to protect itself. My country likes to watch and investigate people who wish it harm. My country is the #1 power in the world. If you think ANY country in the world (this is why my mistake is meaningless) can get us to stop watching someone we think is our enemy, you're the one who's not intelligent, who's negative and ignorant, and who knows nothing about patriotism or optimism.

Every American's response to the assertion in this article that he could come off the terror list should be 'fuck you he's not coming off the list'.

I proud to be an American, I proud of our soldiers risking their lives, I'm proud of the families dealing with the daily parinoia that they might loose the ones they love the most. I'm proud of all the advancements my country has given the world and I'm proud our Democracy and what it has shown the world.

What I'm NOT proud of is a senseless unnecessary war that is getting our people killed so that a few greedy people can make more money or seek revenge. I'm NOT proud that some Americans are so arrogant that they think Democracy is the right or only choice for every country and should be forced upon them. I'm NOT proud that we are so wrapped up in taking care of other countries business that we neglect some of the our own citizens who need the most, and I'm NOT proud of that fact that often big business seems to be above the law and definitely above the environment...

I love my Country and I'm very Proud of them, I'm just not proud nor condone many of it's recent actions.

Get off your high horses, just because someone dosen't agree with the actions of this administration and is ashamed of them to the point that they feel the need to explain them to people from other countries dosen't mean they aren't a patriot... IMHO they are MORE of a Patriot than the person who sits by blindly believing everything they are told.

Midnyte you can say that the first and the last statements you quoted from me ARE my opinion, I will agree with that.

However the other 2 aren't arguable points. The unemployment rate, those without health care etc... is higher than ever. It's a fact we arn't take care of OUR people.

And we use to chat in game years ago so I know you are smart enough to realize that people are different. They have different beliefs, different cultures and different needs based upon those surroundings and different educations levels. For some people democracy is not the ideal solution. It might be someday but it's not right now, to think so it foolish and arrogant. That may seem like an opinion but its not, its the truth, don't kid yourself into believing otherwise.

I would agree that we need to take care of our own before we go taking care of the world. I am not saying that we shouldn't be doing what we are doing for those in need like those in the tsunami tragedy. What I am saying is, charity begins at home. Feed our people, employ our people, and above all educate people so that they can do the good acts that we do across the globe but get no recognition for.

An idiot like yourself who is so narrow minded (have you even been to Germany and France? I highly doubt it.. but I bet Bush said they are bad so you took your mouth off his dick long enough to say so!) as you are calling other people judgemental is quite amusing.

Now go smoke some more and make your parents proud of you!
I'm proud of all the advancements my country has given the world and I'm proud our Democracy and what it has shown the world.
What exactly HAS the democracy (it is not a pure democracy btw) showed the world? I mean, you got the 2000 elections.. the dirtiest campaigns anywhere in the world.. so much money being spit into politics from special interest groups..

I guess my question to you is, "Why do you care"? You don't live here. You don't pay our taxes. I don't believe you have any vested interests here. Even had Kerry won we would still be involved in Iraq for at least another 2-3 years regardless of what has been said.(my unsubstantiated opinion)

Have you taken over for Kyo because she left a void of Anti-Americanism when she left? Why don't you change your government first before you focus on ours. All this hate can't be good for you.

Wow, what a great argument "Bubba".

So, to only concentrate on my own country and not butt my nose into any others? As an American, mentioning Iraq in your post, that is your advice?

I mentioned Iraq because that seems to be the theme that you are fixated on. Just because the American people chose, by a majority, Bush to lead this country, you basically lable everyone a moran because they didn't follow your point of view?

I wasn't really making an argument so much as an observation really. I keep hearing the same old story from you over and over. It is more annoying that anything Searyx ever did. At least he knew when to shut up.

Have you ever been in the military? I mean other that to blow up churchs and Brits? Oh did I make a generalization about the Irish? Or are you too drunk to notice? Oh my, another generalization. See, I am half Irish so I feel somewhat entitled to make those comments if I choose to.

Have you ever lived in America? Or do you get all your facts from TV and the Papers? Not saying that is wrong but unless you live here I guess I am saying it is find a new tune please because you are worse than nails on the chalk board.

It'd be funny if it wasn't releated to this:
Morans Famous Temper Put in an Appearance -- On an 8 Year Old

In the case of Representative Morans, the Washington Times reported Wednesday that the parents of the eight year old in question have now filed an official complaint against Morans, claiming that the Congressman attacked the boy just for telling him he liked his car. For his part, Morans has insisted he was approached by the boy and repeatedly told to hand over his car or be shot -

Where's "GO USA" related to that? I don't honestly think there's any relationship between the sign and Rep. Morans.

Yeah that "theme" really must be such a pain in the ass for you, your the one being bombed to hell, thats right.

Anyone who does support Bush frankly is a moron, get over it.

No, I also read teh interweb and that glorious invention "books". They are vary informative.

If my little jibe hurt, it is because it is sadly a truth, and for the record, I have specifically stated in the past it is not a "racist against Americans" thing as is the usual reactionary bullshit you hear but more a disturbance with the exceptionally high number of misinformed people who seem to incessently verbalise their insane ramblings.

Look at the Huffy anti France bullshit in this very thread, I mean grow the fuck up.

Well, I have been to France, Germany, China, and South Korea (I could see North Korea from where I stood), and my Grandparents are Russian. Though I haven't made remarks against any of those countries that I can remember though if I did on these boards it was most likely in jest or from first hand experience from when I was there.

Holy fuck you guys are teh LAFF.

Did you make that shit up yourselves, or did you just repeat old jokes that were not funny evar for the millionth time???

No fucking wonder your country is the laughing stock of the entire planet.

Yeah I forgot to allow VV to turn into a conservative lovefest so we can insult everyone who doesn't agree with US foreign policy and or any country our "irrational" minds feel like..................that's the way forward after all!

I suppose that must make you angry that your backward ass concepts for life are not allowed to spew endlessly because of that "leprechaun" in the corner.

Well boo fucking hoo,
and if you are going to try and flame anyone ever again Cart, please remove that 60 foot high wall of antieveryoneoutsidetheus cock from your face so you can at least try and concentrate for a whole minute on something vaguely insulting and not just embarrasingly stoopid.

Oh, and unrational? haha!

Edit: On topic, this thing happens every day, I would wonder how he plans to stay alive though now people know he has informed on his own brothers to the very "infidels" they are fighting. Might wanna just check underneath your car for a few weeks mate :p

Right: <assertion of opinion as fact>

Left: <opinon that the facts may be different>
