This movie is too big for today's audiance. You can put all the love and attention to detail and create an artistic masterpiece for a movie, but most people will not notice or even care. I predict a very "Sky Captain and the World of Tomarrow" reception to this film (ie:instant cult classic, poor showing at the box office).

Most people simply will not go see a movie too far out of the norm. Sin City looks like it will break too many conventions and use too many gimmicks all in one go.

The story for Sky Captain... sucked, though. Sin City has some great stories to build on and while there's a gimmick factor involved in the production, it comes second to telling the story, it seems to me.

Couldnt agree more. Sky Captain was fun, and a good idea, and true to the 1960'es cliffhanger type series, but it was bloody boring, and showed perfectly that a good idea, true to its genre can still fail horribly if the story sucks.

What i see as the possible problem for Sin City are that the (mostly) black and white might scare some moviegoers away, but hope the brilliant cast and the Rodriguez/Tarantino mix might lure those mindless action movie drones in anyway. And for those of them that goes, theyre at least gonna get one hell of a surprise when they see Elijah Wood :).

I still say that 99% of the general movie going population dosen't know or care who Frank Miller is or how great the Sin City comic book was. Based on the trailer alone, I think it will fail to find an audience. I'll come back and review this thread after it is released and post some Sky Captain box office reports vs. Sin City and we'll see how close or far off I am :)

Just some starting figures and for my future reference:

At a quick glance, looks like Sky Captain barely took in 30 million.

The Daredevil movie was based on Frank Millar's run around issues 160-181. If they don't care about Frank Millar writing that, they won't care if an over use of black ink Sin City comic was written by Millar either.

I want a Gen13 movie damnit.

On the preview you just linked alone, it looks like a good time.

Bah Winnow, i linked that trailer a while back, on a bittorrent link, because it wasnt public yet (got removed from the 2 websites i ever managed to find that had it), but its a great trailer.

And a fun trivia about it, the first story was actually made to convince Frank Miller to make a movie out of Sin City, Miller kinda hated Hollywood after the Robocop movies, and refused anyone even mentioning film to him, untill Rodriguez showed him this little gem :)

Do not mention Miller and Robocop. It was an accident! HE WAS NOT REALLY INVOLVED.
