Sarg, that was a very thought provoking item. Imagine if it actually happened. HOLY CRAP. Googlezon would effectively control the flow of news all around the globe.

Frightening.

Thanks for this.

That is pretty interesting. However im not too sure people will be quick to get all their news from a bot. However with tivo+google it will be easy to watch news.

With the way the media is headed (run by the ultra rich to serve their interests) I could care less if print/television media disappeared.

That freelance stuff is stolen straight out of Snow Crash =p

That's very interesting. I'm surprised they forgot one of the more popular blogtypes.. Fark.

Sounds like a google hater to me.

The movie was well done. The voice and music add extra drama to it. What the fuck is a blog? I keep hearing blog blog blog. Isn't it just a bunch of lonely people posting about their fucked up lives and giving their opinions about things? Who cares? People do that on message boards as well.

His point about Tivo is dead on though. Once you use Tivo, you never go back. It rocks. I am totally free from worrying about when something comes on the tube. It's there when I want to see it and even for live sporting events, I prefer waiting 30+ minutes so I can speed through the commercials and halftime. It gives me another 30+ minutes for me to do whatever I choose during that time and the pause button determines when I get up to get a drink or go to the restroom. Best thing ever.

As for his comment about print media. I havent' subscribed to a newspaper in 10-12 years. It's all online, easier to access and enviromentally friendly. As with the ton of junk ads I can't get rid of coming into my mailbox, most newspapers are over printed and a waste...same with those damn telephone books...I haven't even had a land line in 10 years and those damn books keep showing up. Waste. Again, easier to access online and at most, those little mobile yellow page phone books that are much smaller have a use. Yellow pages online works well.

It's an interesting watch, but I'm guessing blogs are just a fancy updated name for people's personal home pages. The only concern here is that many reporters and photographers will lose their jobs and that may cut back on quality articles...I would expect that to balance out though as people are fed up with joe schmoe trying to be a reporter.

BTW, Google News is awesome. If you don't use it, you should. The Google News search is the quickest way to find relevant info out there.

I find it kind of funny...freedom of the press and information is something that journalists have always fought for and now, taken to its extreme today, may cost them their jobs.

Traditionally, blogs are nothing more than a page of text in which teenagers whine about their daily struggles in school and romance. There are a few exceptions, but quite rare.
