Serious downtime

Post by Midnyte_Ragebringer »

Wow. How about this downtime? Can't recall ever seeing anything like this. It must be some major ass issue.

on top of the downtime, people will be pissed about the revert.

I logged on this morning after the daily downtime and none of my non-advanced recipes in were in my book and even more importantly I had no active quests and one finished quest in my journal (and I have completed over 170). Apparently pretty much everyone on the qeynos side of the world had the same problem. My Freeport character (and at least one other freeport char I know of) was ok. Servers came back down after an hour or two and have been down ever since.

All EverQuest II English-language servers will be brought down for an update on Friday, December 17th, at 7AM PST. Estimated downtime is one hour.

They're wiping character debt and going to give the players "free hours" to make up for this, so I think they're handling themselves fairly well.

edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm ticked about the revert. I almost scored 22, I picked up about half a gold in loot, got some of the Giant mastery items.. ect.

I guess I just don't get it.. I know as of right now there are 6 servers down, Permafrost being one of them. If this was a "hardware issue" or whatever, how can all other servers be up but those 6? Aren't they all connected? Again I am not a computer whiz.. I know how to turn mine on, click the EQ2 icon and proceed from there and a few other things, but nothing on the massive scale of servers or networks. Maybe someone could explain it to me.

You know your itch to play is seriously disturbing when you are at Best Buy doing last minute Christmas shopping and you find yourself infront of the Eq2 demo display for like 5 minutes trying to get a fix...

Was a database issue from what I heard. And a bad one.

And no, a hardware issue does not necesarily mean that all servers are either up or down at the same time. Depends on the issue and their setup, but even if it is a router or a backbone issue they most likely have different servers on different hardware. And of course hardware can be just one server (or parts of one) dying as well.

As of this morning, they were down to 3 servers still down, Permafrost being one of them (of course). Must be my CBK.

I gladly welcomed this massive downtime.

It gave me a chance to get all my xmas shopping done without falling behind my normal group members in xp.

OMG!, character reverts? lost quests? ridiculas downtime? and to think I origianlly planned to play EQ2 rather than WoW, heh. Sorry to hear about the problems, I remember them all too well. :( If you get tired of Sony there will be a place waiting for you on Whisperwind.

FOR THE HORDE!

All the quests are back, and although it was annoying to be down for a day, they are giving us 3 days and 50 percent exp bonus for two days. :P

It really wasn't that bad at all. They had a problem, they fixed it. The fact that they gave us 2 1/2 days of bonus exp is nice and all, but I wouldn't care either way. Problems happen. Life isn't perfect and neither is a game. Instead of playing EQ2 I spent time partying with friends and hanging with my kids and wifey. How could that be bad? Eq2 is better than EQ1 is so many ways, it's unreal.
