Bomb search on the Seattle ferry I was just about to board..

Post by Keverian FireCry »

There's a possible bombing attempt on a Seattle Ferry happening about 10mins from my house. Coastguard boats an police helicopters everywhere, bomb sniffing dogs, etc.

I was about to board the ferry going from Bainbridge Island to Seattle for school today, and all of the sudden the dock I'm walking to is surrounded by helicopters and police cars. All I've heard is that someone put a backpack into a trashcan and ran off, so everyone was taken off the ferry, and the police, coastguard, etc were called in.

I'm not sure if that means some teenage bully threw a nerds backpack in the garbage or if it's some sort of terrorist act. I know for the last year or so there has been a terrorist watch on the Seattle Ferries because they are high on the list of possible terrorist targets in the US.

Did I mention I was going over to Seattle to take my final? If this isn't a good excuse for missing it I don't know what is. :?

I'll update you if anything happens. Could be big trouble brewing...or nothing at all...

Well, they're easy, and I'm willing to bet not under heavy security.
They also carry enough people to make an "impression", and it's not easy to rescue people in the water. Plus, it's also getting a bit cold now - some of them could freeze to death before being rescued.

So, you have easy to hit, a good death to wounded ratio, and would freak the shit out of the local people - plus put panic into other ferries across the country, such as Jersey and NY.

To tell you the truth, I'd rather have it be for nothing than for something.

Absolutely. Plus, it gets the bomb squad folks out of the brothels and into action! :D

We are having multiple daily firebomb alerts over the festive Christmas period in Belfast.

Who says the spirit of Christmas is dead?!

Because around a thousand people board one vessel at a time, every 50 mins for most of the day. Updwards of two thousand people are on board during peek commuter hours, add in 200+ vehicles on board in the lower decks and you've got one huge target...with almost no security.

Besides one cop randomly checking trucks lined up to board the ferry, there are no security checks. No bag checks that I've ever seen, no identification checks, etc. They can't do security checks because of how many people need to get across the sound to Seattle every 50mins to get to and from work, school, etc.

Welcome to mass transit

I've been on so many trains/subways/ferries that have had to be evacuated, all I can say is grats on losing your cherry.

Ah didn't know that many people were on each of them. That makes sense then. Thanks for the info.
