Creature Mastery Books (updated 12/28 with more info)

Post by Akaran_D »

These are hard to find, so here's the list of them that I've found info on.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Replacing this with the post from another player. It's much, much better. I've lost the person's name and the boards are wonky, as soon as I can get it again I'll update to give credit where credit is due.
Bixies

As a special note, Fallen Gate requires special access. Both good- and evil-aligned characters can complete the quest, but in either case you must be flagged for Fallen Gate, have someone that is flagged for Fallen Gate get you in, kill Kizdean Gix to get the key (possibly a no-rent item), or (for evil-aligned) obtain access via a quest from Kanos X'Aphon near the entrance to Thieve's Way. If multiple people are doing the FG key quest from N Freeport, be *sure* that everyone hails Kanos, and selects 'Gathering my friends' as their conversation answer. The entrance to Fallen Gate is very near the West Freeport entrance to Thieves Way. Good-aligned characters can use this location to their advantage because of the lack of Freeport city guards (who will kick you out).
Post-Beta?: Confirmed.
Reward: A morning star called D'Vorlian's Lash.
Quote: "The lash is mercy - an Inquisitor's mercy. Bow your head and revel in your luck!" - D'Vorlian of the Dismal Rage

Important notes regarding Mastery Books
If you plan on doing a mastery book, HEED MY ADVICE, young or old or whatever traveler type you are. Once you find the book, then read it to start the quest DO NOT /study any part until after you've obtained the heart, brain and soul items.

Allow me to speak of my tale.
After spending a few days doing the Gnoll quest, having studied everything first and recieving the brain, I began to look for info on it to see what I was doing wrong. Turns out, there is a lurking, nasty bug that can surface (can, not always) that will stop the spirit / heart from dropping - or only dropping obscenely rarely.

What you do is this.

Get the quest.
Find a cluster of mobs that match the type you're after, doesn't matter what. If you're doing this at 20 or a bit lower, there's a 7 spawn "gnoll champion" group in Antonica in the valley leading to the hidden entrance; in the Commonlands there are big clusters of Orc Pawns north of the NFP gate; Zombies.. well. Fallen Gate and Caltoris are filled with them...

Kill these groups until you recieve a note that your journal will be updated when you finish the encounter. Finish the encounter, and.. you should get all three "rewards" to it. Then study any of the tradeable parts to your hearts content, that is all there is to it. I can confirm this working for Orc, Gnoll, Zombie (did Orc and Zombie on the same day) - and I've a guildmate that got stuck in the skeleton quest with what sounds like the same bug.

If you ARE stuck with this bug and want to try it over, not only should you delete the quest, but also delete the book to make sure you completely clear the bug out of your character.

And yes, the zombie reward is buggered right now. Won't sit on anything right.

Different thing.
The mastery quests only give out a "mountable" reward and a book to put into your room.

What you're talking about isn't currently in the game outside of Gnoll Master's Rage and Orc Master's Rage. It would be nice if they were..

Ahh, ok. Only reason I was looking for something is because this guy was like, man I love my skeleton mastery, helps againts these mobs. So I assumed that there was a quest for it.

Maybe because hes a paladin he just gets bonus againts undead.

Everyone is supposed to get a ghost/skeleton/zombie choice at about level 18 like the gnoll/orc nuke choice at level 12. But they're bugged. They'll be resetting all racial/character/mastery traits when they fix the bug so we all get to choose them again. There's a thread about it on the official forums.

I am told it's level restricted. I can't get it at 20, I hear you can at 25.
If anyone ehre is 25th and over and would like to verify, be my guest, I'll check it as soon as I can have time to play again (finals week, christmas rush, fellow staffers are either sick or sore).

There's actually two places can get evil eye mastery book, the second one is in the room with all the clay golems and the muddite pool. Its the cart on the left as you first enter the room, little easier to get to than the other one.

The following info is outdated:

I've got 99 problems and I'm not dealing with any of them - Lay-Z
